Women plays important role in all sectors of the economy in ensuring sustainable development of every country. They play active roles in political, religious, economic, social and cultural aspect of the society to keep it moving apart from keeping the home. Yet, their contributions are not recognized by men hence they are not given equal opportunity to maximize their potentials in bringing development to the society. Women are been discriminated, oppressed and marginalized despite the UN General Assembly declaration in 1979 and adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), referred to as the “International Bill of Rights for Women”. It is in this regard that the researcher wants to undertake this research project to find out the level of Gender Inequality and how it has affected sustainable development in Benue State. In the process of carrying out this research, radical feminism was adopted as its theoretical framework. The researcher uses survey method of data collection and a simple sampling technique to administer questionnaire to respondents, research question based on clear assumption were prepared for the study, data were collected, presented and analysed using simple percentage frequency. The result shows that women in Benue State are been marginalized, oppressed and discriminated and as such denied the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state. They are considered as inferior by their male counterpart and these have negative impact on sustainable development of the State. To solve this problem, the researcher makes the following suggestions. That the resolution of the Beijing Conference Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995 on feminism should be strictly adhered to in Benue State. Benue women should be encouraged to participate actively in politics so as to contribute to the development of the state, Women should not be seen as inferior and weaker sex in Benue State, Women should not be restricted to domestic activities only but be given opportunity to perform actively in administrative work and get involved in governance, More women should be voted into political offices so that it will enable them to get involved in decision making process that brings about sustainable development in the society, Girl child education should be given high priority in Benue State as this will enlighten and empower them to participate actively.
