It aims at boosting empathy and developing an ability to reach informed conclusions. It supports the acquisition of social skills and fosters collaboration while helping them to think critically, deepen their understanding, and find reality in equilibrium. In reaching for insights, students acquire vital skills, knowledge, and practices. Socratic learning depends on how participants can use systematic dialogue. This study monitored the effects of students' use of specific discourse markers (DMs) over a series of speaking tasks undertaken in Socratic seminars. Each task was devised to support the learning objectives of a standardized English language course given to pre-service English teachers in Turkey. Recordings were used to provide feedback to ten participants and then analyzed for appropriate use of spoken DMs. The findings of the study revealed solid evidence of accurate and contextually appropriate DM usage as the number of appropriate DM use increased significantly in the seminars conducted at the end of the intervention period.

The issue of stimulating learners to become better writers was addressed through using a selection of activities prepared to trigger the multiple intelligences defined by the founder of Multiple Intelligence theory, Howard Gardner. In the study, both experimental and control groups analyzed the same materials. The course of treatment for the experimental group was outlined through inclusion of multiple intelligences activities during ‘while-stage’ of writing. In the control group, on the other hand, there was not any intervention in the planned flow. The results of the study yielded that the learners whose multiple intelligences were activated during implementation displayed better performance in writing. The findings are discussed in line with the current status and several implications are provided for utilizing the multiple intelligences in ELT.

The question of 'in what ways does critical thinking develop best?' still needs further exploration. Cognitive science may provide assistance in comprehending the elusive nature of critical thinking, which may lend itself to explanations by receiving theoretical background and studying skills from a wide array of perspectives. Regarding the teaching of critical thinking skills to pre-service language teachers in an EFL context, it is apparent that it requires meticulous attention from the onset of the design of the language course. Aiming to develop a critical reading and writing course which was newly added to the English Language Teaching curriculum by the Higher Education Council and putting the teaching of critical thinking skills into the core, the current study aims to explore the critical thinking and reading levels of the students at the beginning of the course and display whether any difference took place during the course of time in the academic semester specified.
