Thus, this paper delineates vital aspects associated in converting such materials to e-formats and the platform on which digital archives and digital learning may become possible. Moreover, the construction of a platform for integrating digital content with e-learning creates a frontier, opening up new resources in Chinese traditional calligraphic painting instruction.

However, the development of metadata is not an easy task. Its formulation starts with analysing the attributes of collections as well as understanding the user information needs and information seeking behaviour. The issue of interoperability also needs to be considered in terms of both semantics and syntax. This paper discusses issues related to the development of metadata in Taiwan. It describes the development process of a Chinese metadata system, Metadata Interchange for Chinese Information (MICI), and an XML/metadata management system, Metalogy. Both were developed under the Digital Museum Initiative sponsored by the National Science Council of Taiwan.

The MLIS students from these four universities were invited to take part in a self-completion online questionnaire survey, and 200 responses were collected in total. We discovered that their prior working experience in the library had an impact on their decision to pursue the MLIS program. We also categorized the career and learning motivation factors of MLIS learners into intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and discovered that the participants were motivated by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors to pursue their graduate studies in the Library and Information Science (LIS) field. We found that intrinsic factors influenced the students of University of Copenhagen signifi...

School librarians are not merely managers of the school libraries nowadays; they are also expected to serve as administrators, teaching consultants, information specialists and IL teachers, etc. Unfortunately, in many countries, especially in Asia, there has always been a lack of understanding on the parts of the classroom teachers and school administration about their role as IL specialists in the public school system. Design/methodology/approach – The school librarians in Hong Kong, Japan, Shanghai, South Korea and Taipei were invited to take part in a questionnaire survey. A total number of 466 self-completed questionnaires were collected from all 5 regions. Findings – The results indicated that the school librarians in both Taipei and South Korea outperform...

Five research purposes are proposed in this study. They are: 1. to discover the elements that can be utilized to construct the concept of faculty-librarian collaborative culture; 2. to explore the value levels of faculty-librarian collaborative culture in the colleges and universities of Taiwan; 3. to measure the differences in the value levels of faculty-librarian collaborative culture between faculty members and librarians; 4. to understand the current development of faculty-librarian collaboration in the colleges and universities of Taiwan; and 5. to examine the impact relationship between faculty-librarian collaborative culture and the current development of faculty-librarian collaboration. This study adopted Schein's three-level model of organizational culture as the conceptual structure to explore the dimensions and factors that are utilized to construct collaborative cultur...

Here we analyze the origin of MOOCs, as well as trends in education initiated by these courses, and compare them with OpenCourseWare (OCW), YouTube EDU, iTunes U. Specifically, this paper will discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by MOOCs, from the perspective of Asian countries, with reference to economics, culture, language, and instruction.
