While environmental protection is a trend in the hospitality industry, hospitality programs have not yet reflected this trend in their curricula. By employing a content analysis and an online field survey, this study attempted to identify the current status of environmental education and evaluate hospitality students' perceptions of environmental education needs in the U.S. Results indicated that even though not many selected hospitality programs have offered environmental courses, about 60% of students in this study believed environmental education was becoming more important and beneficial for their future careers.

By coating functionalized-silica particles on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-coated plate, these particles can form a monolayer of materials on the PDMS membrane for sample handling without peeling off. An octadecyl(C18)-functionalized plate was fabricated by coating porous C18-silica particles on a PDMS-coated plate. The C18 particle-coated PDMS plate (CP plate) has better sensitivity than C18 tips and magnetic nanoparticles, along with a higher sample recovery (64.3 ± 4.9%) compared to the C18 tip method, when analyzing trace amounts of 5 fm BSA digest samples. The CP plate shows significantly higher urea/SDS removal efficiency on the cell lysate proteome compared to C18 tips. T...

The method involves incubating catechins in a mixture of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles and graphene flakes (GF) and then subjecting the mixture to microwave irradiation to facilitate the enrichment of analytes. In this approach, TiO2 nanoparticles serve as probes to enrich catechins while GF serve to increase the desorption/ionization efficiency. The use of the TiO2-GF mixture as matrix provides a number of advantages over TiO2 nanoparticles alone, including higher desorption/ionization efficiency, enhanced analyte enrichment and reduced run time (less 10min). We demonstrate that the addition of GF to nanoparticles of TiO2 improves the detection of catechins by SALDI-MS. At a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, the limits of detection were 0.04pmole for (+)-catechin (C), 0.17pmole for (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC), 0.35pmole for (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG), and 0.50pmole for (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This method was further applied to determine the catechin content in several tea samples and the results showed good shot-to-shot and sample-to-sample reproducibility (less than 10% and 13%, respectively) as well as good quantitative linearity for the four analytes (R(2)>0.995). The precision calculated as percent relative standard derivation (%RSD), ranged from 3.6% to 12.4%. Overall, we show that this method is a sensitive, simple and high-throughput technique for the detection of catechins in tea.

Alternative splicing (AS) is an important mechanism in eukaryotic organism. We choose the ``exon skipping events'' from AS events for research. In the data of ``conserved exon skipping events'', we get 668 human-mouse conserved events, 179 human-rat conserved events and 266 conserved mouse-rat events. There are some extra data such as ``non-conserved exon skipping events'' and ``species-specific events''. We found out that the length of AS exon is shorter in conserved exon skipping event, but the ratio of reading frame preservation is higher. Among them, the minor form is the most special. We even got the same result in non-conserved exon skipping events. We calculated the KA/KS value by KA/KS ratio test and found out that the human-mouse KA/KS ratio is 0.158, the human-rat is 0.182 and the mouse-rat is 0.190. This represents that the human-mouse conserved events have the highest purifying selection pressure. In the end, we adopt KA/KS ratio test to do a further analysis between conserved and non-conserved exon skipping events and evaluate the evolutionary diversity of cross-species comparation.

This system realizes its mobile surveillance via mobile phones by the planted Java applet. The challenge is that PHSS works independently under the existing Internet Service Providers (ISP) and telecoms. End-users can monitor their home and properties anywhere and anytime on the screen of their mobile phone. Furthermore, PHSS can be also applied to vehicle surveillance without the restrictions of ISPs. This system has been completed and verified in houses and vehicles.

However, the limited network bandwidth, the unfriendly operation (IP dialing), and the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) environment bound the development of video phone. An innovative data transmission architecture has been presented for video phone systems in this paper, especially the advantage of operating in the DHCP environment. The proposed video phone system retains the traditional dialing way with telephone number and downward capability with the recent analog telephone. So that users can enjoy the video phone in their used operations.
