In such a theory, however, the mass scale arising from the excitation of the extra space is restricted to the order of Planck mass. In the present paper, we investigate the Kaluza-Klein theory from the viewpoint of the induced gravity; that is, the theory of gravity defined as a quantum fluctuation of fundamental matter fields. We show that the problem of the Planck mass can be overcome by considering the cutoff of ultraviolet divergence out of the extra dimensional space.

It is shown that such a vacuum is really a self-consistent solution of induced gravity and becomes stable against the change of scale of internal space by adjusting parameters such as the mass of matter fields, cosmological constant and so on.

Using the density matrix renormalization group and the effective chirality model, we find that, as the leg coupling increases, the chirality liquid, a novel spin imbalance phase and the vector-spin-chirality ordered phase emerge without closing the plateau spin gap. We also clarify the role of the S 3-symmetry of the spin tube, behind these quantum phase transitions.
