Many elderly who chose to live alone because their children are married and already started their own family. This was one of the reason that the elderly are prone to loneliness. This study aimed to describe the loneliness which experienced by elderly who lived in a nursing home. The research question was how the loneliness were experienced by elderly who lived in a nursing home; what were the causes and consequences of loneliness and how the elderly coped with loneliness that they experienced. Subjects in this study were two elderly women living in nursing home. The research data were collected by semistructured interviews. This study used qualitative research methods with descriptive phenomenological analysis. Credibility was obtained by the use of member checking, which involved matching the result from data analysis on each subject. The results suggested that: firstly, loneliness experienced in the form of job losses. Eventually, the loss of loved ones also experienced as loneliness. In addition, loneliness also experienced as a helplessness regarding physical limitation, living far away from family and the absence of an understanding friend. The elderly overcame loneliness by praying to regulate their emotions, sharing with friends in nursing home, receiving and be thankful for their current condition.
