Many factors affect coffee’s characteristics, including its origin, storage, and roasting conditions. In this context, this study analyzes 100% Arabica medium-roasted coffee from six countries (El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, and Colombia) to assess its total polyphenols, individual polyphenols, total antioxidant capacity, hydro- and liposoluble vitamins, and PAHs using analytical techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), FT-NIR spectrometry, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, and photochemiluminescence. A total of 67 samples were collected from Romanian general and specialty stores. According to the study, coffee composition varies by origin, pedo-climatic characteristics, and store (general or specialty). The highest values for total polyphenols, polyphenols, and antioxidant capacity were ...

The results for metal analysis obtained by ICP-MS showed a contamination of all investigated samples with Ni and As above the normal limits foreseen by Romanian legislation. Also one of the sample presented contamination with Mn above the normal limits. The results for PAH obtained by HPLC show a small contamination with naphthalene, phenanthrene and total PAH in the west exit of Cluj-Napoca. These results suggest that a further investigation of the soil from Cluj-Napoca it is necessary before drawing final conclusions.

FT-IR spectrum of the glass matrix shows the presence of AsO3, PbO4 and PbO3 structural units. The Raman spectrum of the glass matrix confirms the structure proposed by FT-IR. By both FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies, the presence of structural units characteristic to MnO was not directly observed.

The data obtained show that, by melting the samples at Te = 1200°C or Te = 1250° C , glasses for x≤35 mol % were obtained, and the forming of crystalline microprecipitates of Fe 2 O 3 in the sample with x = 50 mol %. It was also established that the thermal treatment at 565°C without and in the presence of magnetic field of 0.7 T is influencing the forming and the development of the Fe 2 O 3 microcrystals in samples with x≥35 mol %. The samples melted at Tc = 1200° C and Tc = 1250° C were studied by magnetic susceptibility measurements which evidenced similar results with those obtained by EPR. Also, the magnetic measurements show that for the thermal untreated samples the iron ions participate at superexchange interactions f...

The XRD patterns confirm the formation of a vitreous structure for x<35mol% Fe2O3. The evolution of density and molar volume with the addition and increasing of iron content indicates structural changes in the structure of Bi2O3·CdO glass matrix. The FT-IR spectrum of the glass matrix reveals a structure realized from BiO3 pyramidal and BiO6 octahedral units. With the addition of iron the structure proposed by the glass matrix is changing by the appearance of FeO4 units. Also the existence of FeO6 units cannot be excluded. The Raman spectra suggest a structure build from BiO6 octahedral units. By Raman scattering the presence of structural units characteristic to Fe2O3 was not directly observed but the evolution of the spectra is dependent of the iron content.

The influence of Fe2O3 and V2O5 content on the structure of P2O5·Li2O glass matrix was followed. The P2O5·Li2O glass matrix presents three absorption bands characteristic to metaphosphate chain structures. The addition of Fe2O3 or V2O5 determines the modification of the structure of the studied glasses.

For low content of V 2 O 5 all the spectra present a hyperfine structure typical for isolated V 4+ ions. With the increasing of V 2 O 5 content, the EPR absorption signal showing hyperfine structure is superposed by a broad line without hyperfine structure characteristic for clustered ions. At high V 2 O 5 content, the vanadium hyperfine structure disappears and only the broad line can be observed in the spectra. Spin Hamiltonian parameters g k, g?, A k; A?; dipolar hyperfine coupling parameters, P, and Fermi contact interaction parameters, K, have been calculated. The composition dependence of line widths of the first two absorptions from the parallel band and of the broad line characteristic to the cluster formations was also discussed.

Milk is a commune adulterated food product, like melamine adulteration, which resulted in devastating effects, especially on young children. Because of the current fast paste economy, it is essential to develop equally fast analysis methods to ensure reliable and sensitive results quickly with little to no sample preparation. For that purpose, a Raman method was developed and Partial least squares regression (PLS) was applied in order to develop a model for adulterated goat milk detection. Minitab 17 software was used for the statistical modeling of data. Validation matrices were constructed using unadulterated goat milk and goat milk adulterated with cow milk in different proportions (0-50%). The prediction model had a correlation coefficient of 99.8 %.
