It usually occurs as a single rupture of the tunica albuginea in one of the two corpora cavernosa; a rupture of both masses is an uncommon finding. We conducted this study to determine the etiology, clinical presentation and to review the causes and management of penile fracture. Methods: The retrospective study was carried out on 17 patients, admitted in the department of Urosurgery from January 2017 to December 2020 with penile fracture in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Kathmandu. Patient demographic profile, etiology, clinical presentation, time interval from injury to presentation, investigation done, treatment given and intraoperative findings were analyzed. Results: The main cause of penile fractures was sexual intercourse (82.35%) followed by manual manipulation (17.65%). Crackling sound (100%) followed by penile hematoma and pain were the most common presenting symptoms among the patients. Surgical exploratio...

Mesenteric hematoma can be managed conservatively in the event that there is no associated active mesenteric hemorrhage however, must be clinically distinguished from spontaneous mesenteric intraperitoneal hemorrhage.

So far, more than 4 million people worldwide have been infected with the virus. Various manifestations of coronavirus have been reported since the pandemic began. Among them, acute abdomen is one of the manifestations of COVID-19. Some studies have reported acute pancreatitis in several patient due to COVID-19 infection. In this study, we report a rare case in whom SARS-CoV-2 caused acute severe hemorrhagic necrotizing pancreatitis.

The aim of this study was to investigate patients with catheter-associated urinary tract infection over three years at a single hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and to identify meaningful risk factors and causative organisms. Methods: A retrograde analysis was performed on patients with indwelling catheters in ICU of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India. CAUTI was defined as isolated bacterial growth of 100,000 colony-forming units or more either 48 hours after transfer to the ICU if a urinary catheter was placed before the transfer or 48 hours after insertion if the catheter was inserted in the ICU. Only the patients whose culture results were negative before ICU admission were included. Result: Among 350 samples collected in medical and surgical ICU, 38 patien...

METHODOLOGY: Questionnaire-based study collected from 310 participants containing 22 items, including socio-demographic information, donors’ evaluation of blood bank service and 23 statements on motivation. Data on motivation was analyzed using factor analysis. RESULTS: Representation of males (85.4%) for donation was much higher compared to females (14.6%).Unemployed individuals were found to be under-represented. The single, most important, recruitment channel was the influence of active blood donors. CONCLUSION: Most donors were recruited by other donors. Their continued invo...

The medical store is one of the most extensively used facilities of the hospital and hence it is essential that health managers use scientific methods to achieve efficient management and patient satisfaction. Aims and objectives: To apply selective inventory control techniques for the drugs used in intensive care unit of tertiary care teaching hospital. Aims and objectives To apply selective inventory control techniques for the drugs used in intensive care unit of tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and methods The annual consumption and expenditure incurred on each item of controlled drugs in medical intensive care unit (ICU) for the years 2013 to 2014 was analyzed, and inventory control techniques, i.e. ABC, VED and ABC-VED matrix analysis, were applied. Results It was observed that 13 medicines (43.33%) out of 30 were classified in the category1 (AV + BV + CV + AE +...

Prescriptions may include orders to be performed ABSTRACT Background: The goal of drug therapy is the achievement of defined therapeutic outcomes that improve a patient's quality of life while minimizing patient risk. Medication error is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, yet it can be a confusing and under-appreciated concept. Methods: A total of 3000 prescriptions were selected using Systematic Random Sampling, and prescription errors were stratified according to nuisance they may cause by dispensation followed by identification of Root Causes of the errors. Results: Out of a total of 3000 prescriptions, 2394 prescriptions (70.61%) were found to have one or more errors. The total number of errors were 3390 as many prescriptions had more than one error. The most common type of errors was Type D and was found in 70.61% prescriptions. Conclusions: Learning more about medication errors may enhance health care professionals' ability to provide safe care to their patients. Hence, A focus on easyto-use and inexpensive techniques for medication error reduction should be used to have the greatest impact.
