Subclinical hypothyroidism is characterized by dyslipidemia most commonly in elderly females but perimenopausal females are also at higher risk. There are limited studies on subclinical hypothyroidism in India on perimenopausal women which is done in our study. Objective: The objective of the study was to find the correlation of dylipidemia with subclinical hypothyroidism in perimenopausal women in central India. Material and Methods: The study was conducted at department of medicine in Gandhi Medical College and Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal for one year from January 2015 to December 2015. It was an observational cross-sectional study. Females of 35-45 years of age group with raised TSH and n...

Clinical presentation of NCC can be variable. This has primarily been a disease that remains endemic in southIndia(India). It is a disease of low-socioeconomic countries but increasing trend seen towards developed nations due to migration . Seizures are the commonest presentation of NCC [50-80%] (1,2). Various types of seizures have been described among patients with NCC including generalized, focal and rarely myoclonus and acquired epileptic aphasia. In general, it seems that about half the cases have partial seizures and the other half generaliz...

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a major risk factor for CAD and there appears to be a graded rise in cardiovascular risk with increasing degrees of glucose intolerance well below the definition of overt diabetes. The aim of the study was to define the relationship between HbA1c levels with mortality, morbidity and severity in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Material and Methods: This was an observational prospective study. The sample size was 110 patients with ACS. Detailed history, examination and investigations were done as per preformed proforma. ECG, CPK-MB, echocardiography was done in all patients and coronary angiography (CAG) was done in half of the patients. Results: The mean age was 58.17 ± 9.87. Out of 110 patients, 64 (57.2%) were non-diabetic, 27 (24.5%) were diabetic and 20 (18.2%) had impaired glucose tolerance 46 patients (41.8...

However, the patients with COPD have systemic manifestations that are not reflected by the FEV1. The present study was undertaken to determine the predictive value of BODE index (Body-mass index (B), the degree of airflow obstruction (O) ,dyspnea (D), and exercise capacity (E) for development of pulmonary hypertension and as a predictor of severity in COPD patients. The original BODE index is a simple multidimensional grading system which is superior to FEV1 alone for prediction of mortality and hospitalization rates among COPD patients. Methods : This study was done from January 2013 to December 2014.Total one hundred male patients who attended the chest medicine department, with the symptoms suggestive of COPD were included in this study and the study was done to evaluate the BODE index and correlated with echo-cardigraphic findings suggestive o...

CT Scan of head revealed evidence of cerebral infarction and magnetic resonance angiography revealed bilateral internal carotid artery stenosis with extensive collateral channels. Ten days later the patient developed typical symptoms of Kluver Bucy syndrome with hyperorality, hypersexuality, loss of memory and hypermetamorphosis. This is the first case report of association of Moya Moya disease with Kluver Bucy Syndrome, Presumably due to involvement of the anterior portion of the limbic system.

There have been concerns about its usefulness in immune-compromised patients, especially HIV positive patients with very low CD4 counts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of ADA in HIV sero-positive patients having low CD4 counts, and compare it with its sensitivity in HIV sero-negative patients.

The purpose of this study was to analyse serum ascites lipid gradient (SALG) as a potential diagnostic test. Material and methods: The study was conducted on patients admitted in the Department of Medicine at Gandhi Medical College and Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal. The study included 100 patients (71 with cirrhosis, 17 with tuberculosis and 12 with malignant ascites). Clinical evaluation, abdominal USG, and laboratory investigations including SAAG (Serum Ascites Albumin Gradient), serum lipid profile and SALG including total cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol and VLDL Cholesterol were done. Results: SAAG value in cirrhosis were 1.62±0.390 (>1.1), tuberculosis were 0.82±0.0(<1.1) and malignancy were 0.78±0.426 (<1.1). The SALG levels for differentiating high SAAG from low SAAG were 99.24 ...

There are two major types of HIV-associated distal sensory peripheral neuropathies: primary HIV-associated distal sensory polyneuropathy (HIV-DSP) and ART toxic neuropathy (ATN), together which affect approximately 30–67% of patients with advanced HIV disease. AIM: association of HIV neuropathy & its correlation with glycemic status. MATERIAL & METHODS: After obtaining prior ethical clearance, treatment naive PLHA (person living with HIV/acquired immunodeciency syndrome (AIDS)) patients were included in the study and we carried out a cross-sectional study of the HIV seropositive patients in inpatient and outpatient clinic of the Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, from December 2011 to December 2012. RESULTS: Impaired fasting glucose was signicantly higher in neuropathy group by NCS examination (61.9%) than nonneuropathy group (31.2%), p=0.0...

It is the third leading cause of death in the developed countries after cardiovascular disease and cancer.Electrocardiographic (ECG) and changes can occur in cardiac as well as extracardiac conditions. Abnormalities of ECG are extremely useful in recognition of heart disease, but can occur in a variety of other conditions that are extracardiac. Among these neurologic disease is of special interest. In present study an attempt has been made to identify the electrocardiographic changes produced primarily due to cerebrovascular accidents and its correlation with echocardiography and cardiac enzyme CPK MB. Methods: This was an observational study done at G.M.C Medical College and associated Hamidia hospital Bhopal. Over a period of one year 100 patients fulfilling inclusion criteria, were included and patients were broadly categorized according to type of cerebrovascular accident i.e. ce...
