Studies on environmental control and analysis through remote sensing have already permeated the academic fields, the more information we have, the better our chances to fight outbreaks of deforestation and to preserve the native vegetation cover of a region are. Paraíso das Águas/ Mato Grosso do Sul is in the Cerrado, one of the Brazilian biomes most afflicted by deforestation, therefore, georeferencing was the tool used to monitor the problem, through the avaliation of the indices of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Difference Built-Up Index (NDBI), so that this information can be used in the future to control and orientate the process of urban and sustainable growth and Development of the municipality. Our data highlight that the most deforestation in the municipality is to open spaces for farming, which underscores the fact that these act...

Albeit its economic importance, soybean expansion has led to important land use and land cover changes. In this paper, we evaluate the impact of soybean expansion on ecotourism, using as a case study of the Prata River (Bonito), Brazil; tourist destination where over 30,000 tourists per year came to float in crystal waters. Methods We first evaluated land cover and land use change in the region between 2010 and 2020, checking how and where soybean plantations have expanded. Second, based on monthly data of water transparency of the Prata River, Bonito, we created five possible models considering monthly rainfall and three categories of soybean expansion (slow, rapid and medium). The models were tested through generalized linear regression analysis and ranked through AIC and AIC weight. Results Our results show that soybean expanded from occupying 4% of the river basin in 2010 to 23% in 2020, expanding mostly over pastu...

The characteristics of urbanized areas can be quantified using different methods, including the classification system of Local Climate Zones (LCZs), which describes the local-scale physical conditions of a given area. It is applied with universal and relatively easy standardization based on geometric, thermal, and radiative surface properties. This study aims to characterize the urban and rural areas of the municipality of Campo Grande (Midwest region, Brazil) using an adaptation of the LCZ method. Results from the modeling detected the following six built types: 2-compact midrise, 3-compact low-rise, 4-open high-rise, 6-open low-rise, 8-large low-rise, 9-sparsely built. This method can be used in any urban area if the required input data is available.

In this study, we seek to understand the evolution of research and scientific production on a topic of great relevance today – green equity. Through scientometric analysis based on a systematic literature review, we analyzed articles published in the period between 1992 and 2021. We used the open source R-tool Biblioshiny, which processes information from academic databases to carry out the analyses. Through this methodology it was possible to identify the main fields of research and relate the results obtained with important historical milestones for sustainable development. We also seek to highlight the evolution of research lines and highlight the significant flow...

This work aims to identify areas of eroded soil that occur in the Paraíso River Watershed using free geotechnologies through the vectorization of erosion identified through the analysis of high spatial resolution satellite images freely available on the Google Earth platform. The results obtained point out that in the Paraíso River watershed most of the linear erosions are furrow-type features, the mildest form of this type of erosive process. A total of 463 erosion axes were identified, composed of furrows, ravines, and gullies. The temporal monitoring of images has elucidated the origin of the silting identified in a stretch of the Paraíso River near the MS-316 highway. Thus, the availability of high spatial resolution satellite images associated with the resources available for processing spatial data...

This paper aims to review the progress of research on pasture degradation in different countries. The main research methods for this study include bibliometric analysis, social network analysis and viewing analysis - covering the performance of publications, characteristics of related journals, countries, institutions and authors. The Impact Factor, the H-index and the number of citations are used to investigate the strength of active institutions, authors and scientific periodicals in the field of pasture degradation. Therefore, we intend to outline the research trends already made and point out to future studies. We found 1027 articles published between 1956 and 2018, but none of them has reviewed science in a systematically way. The majority of authors are from China, United States and Germany. These lines of research aim to show the dynamics of pasture in ...
