Although they occur mostly after thoracic or abdominal operation, they can also be encountered after surgery of extremities or the spine. There are few reports of spinal cases in which MR and CT imaging findings of textilomas have been described. In this report, two additional cases with MR, CT and pathological features of paraspinal textilomas are described. CT image demonstrated a paraspinal mass simulating a malignant tumour. While T1-weighted MR images showed the masses with low signal intensity, T2-weighted MR images showed heterogeneous masses with low and high signal intensities.

Study Design: This was a multi-institutional study of 6 patients with myofibroblastoma (5 men and 1 woman) in which preoperatively fine-needle aspiration cytology was performed. Four cases showed classical histologic features, 1 corresponded to the cellular variant and the remaining 1 to the fibrous form. Results: Except for 1 case, smears were cellular and distributed as irregular aggregates and single cells. Most groups showed a small amount of metachromatic stroma and capillaries. Cells retained cytoplasm and showed a spindle-to-plump oval morphology with moderate pleomorphism. Nuclear pleomorphism was present and was relevant in 1 case. Intranuclear pseudoinclusions and mast cells were present in 3 cases. No epithelial clusters were seen. Due to hypercellularity and pleomorphism 1 case was considered as suspicious for malignancy. The study included 16 male Sprague-Dawley rats. Streptozotocin was administered to induce diabetes and bilateral tenorrhaphy of the Achilles tendons was performed. Intraperitoneal resveratrol was injected in the experimental group (n=8) and saline in the control group (n=8) during the postoperative period. Rats were sacrificed at the 14th day. Right side tendons were evaluated biomechanically and left side tendons histologically. Difference in mean tendon tensile strength was not statistically significant between groups (p>0.05). Histologic evaluations of the repair zones showed greater configuration of the newly synthesized collagen in the experimental group. The ratio of the newly synthesized collagen area to the healing region area was significantly higher in the experimental group then the control group (p<0.01). Resveratrol appears to have a positive impact on the process of tendon healing in diabetic conditions in the first 14 days.

It is known to have anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and neuroprotective effects. The goal of this study is to demonstrate the antioxidant and anti-diabetic effects of resveratrol on flap survival in diabetic rats. Streptozotocin-induced diabetic Sprague-Dawley albino rats were treated with 10 mg/kg resveratrol following a flap surgery. Histological findings regarding polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL) density, vascular proliferation, fibroblast density, and tissue necrosis were compared between resveratrol-treated and control rats. Significantly higher PMNL density was found in the control group (p = 0.005); while vascular proliferation and the fibroblast density were higher in the resveratrol group (p = 0.004 and p = 0.021, respectively). Collagen density was also higher in the resveratrol group and the difference has statistical significance (p = 0.024). Lymphocyte density was not significantly different between groups (p = 0.061). When the necrosis in the distal areas was evaluated histologically, 20% of the resveratrol group had epidermal tissue necrosis, thus 90% of the control group had epidermal or full-layer necrosis. Resveratrol improved flap survival significantly in diabetic rats. Therefore, diabetic patients requiring complex reconstructive procedures may benefit from resveratrol; so, clinical trials are required to support this study.

The aims of this study were 1) to assess the adequacy of cytologic specimens for PD-L1 evaluation and 2) to explore correlations of PD-L1 expression with clinicopathologic and molecular features. METHODS: The study cohort included 100 cytology specimens (fluid [n = 28] and fine-needle aspiration [n = 72]) and 165 surgical specimens (biopsy [n = 138] and resection [n = 27]). The PD-L1 immunohistochemistry 22C3 assay and staining assessment were performed according to the manufacturer's instructions. PD-L1 expression was correlated with patients' demographics, pathologic characteristics, and molecular alterations. RESULTS: One hundred forty-two specimens (53.6%) were positive for PD-L1 expression (≥1%). No statistically significant difference in PD-L1 expression was identified between cytologic (56.0%) and surgical specimens (52.1%). Seventy-four of 190 tested cases (38.9%) had genetic alterations. PD-L1 positivity was significantly more prevalent in cases with genetic alterations than in cases without genetic alterations. Furthermore, both PD-L1 positivity and high PD-L1 expression (≥50%) had statistically significant associations with Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) mutations. PD-L1 expression had no significant association with histologic phenotypes or other clinicopathologic features. CONCLUSIONS: The data indicate that cytologic specimens are comparable to surgical specimens for PD-L1 evaluation. The association of PD-L1 expression with KRAS mutations may have clinical relevance in selecting patients with NSCLC for immunotherapy. Cancer Cytopathol 2019;0:1-11.

Infectious oral lesions can mimic benign or malignant neoplasms and fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a simple, minimally invasive procedure for the assessment of patients with such lesions. Here, we describe the case of a 28‐year old patient presented with an asymptomatic, submucosal nodular mass of the tongue. Then, FNAC was performed by an experienced fine needle aspiration (FNA) pathologist (*) in our pathology department and the lesion diagnosed with actinomycosis. We also report a detailed review of cases in the literature, with clinical findings.

These solvents are found primarily in paint as thinner. Because other narcotics are hard to find, thinner is used as a narcotic especially among youngsters of low socioeconomic level. The aim of this study is to determine the histopathological changes of rat kidney with exposure to chronic thinner inhalation. Methods: Randomized trial-the study was conducted at the animal care facility of Haydarpasa Numune Education and Research Hospital. Forty albino Wistar male rats were used throughout the experiment. Three groups of rats inhaled thinner in a glass cage for 1, 3, and 5 weeks, respectively. Ten rats inhaled only the air in the room as the control group. Results: We observed the development of inflammation in the kidneys that became more remarkable as exposure time extended. Development of inflammation because of thinner apparently differed between the groups of week 1 and week 5. There was no difference in granuloma development. If the experiment lasted longer, there might have been granuloma development. Conclusions: Based on histopathological evaluations, it was shown that exposure to chronic thinner inhalation causes detectable damage on the kidney, which becomes more prominent as exposure period extends. As we established disorders in movement and consciousness in the rats during thinner inhalation, we can conclude that thinner also has a damaging effect upon the central nervous system.

The cause of such combined tumors is uncertain. Simple coincidence may be the likely explanation in most cases, because both meningiomas and gliomas are relatively common. Preoperatively, these two separate lesions were detected on computerized tomography and magnetic resonance scans. Gross total removal of both tumors was accomplished at a single operation. The modern imaging methods such as computerized tomography and magnetic resonance not only provide the conditions for a better diagnosis before the operation but also direct the operation plan to excise both tumors in one procedure.

On the other hand, peritoneal adhesion is still one of the main complications after hernia fixation operations. For preventing peritoneal adhesion, many solutions have been offered until today, such as gel systems, adhesion barrier membranes and bilayer meshes. Among these, bilayer meshes come to the forefront as they serve both for hernia repair and for adhesion prevention. In this study, we developed an easy and effective method to produce a multifunctional PP-integrated bilayer mesh which is composed of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and chitosan, with no need for neutralization. We made the composite mesh by electrospinning a layer onto the PP mesh. We evaluated the material characteristics, in vitro bactericidal activities and the interactions between the cells and the materials. Then, we conducted in vivo efficiency studies. The results proved that the PPintegrated bilayer composite mesh is bactericidal against E.coli and S.aureus, and is tissuecompatible and it supremely prevents adhesion.
