We hide a phase-based signature of the image back into its Fourier magnitude spectrum in the embedding stage. The detector computes the Fourier transform of the watermarked image and extracts the embedded signature. Authentication performance is measured by a correlation test of the extracted signature and the signature computed from the watermarked image. The quality of the watermarked image is obtained from the peak signal-tonoise ratio metric. We also furnish simulation results to show the robustness of our approach to typical image processing as found in JPEG compression.

Ethnic marketing in Australia is still in a developmental stage. Looking from the practitioner’s perspective, this paper reveals the ethnic marketing potential in Australia. Marketers face an exciting challenge in reaching a multi-ethnic Australia with huge potential returns. If perceptively practised, ethnic marketing could develop new approaches that respect Australia's diversities while celebrating their similarities. The market potential of the diverse ethnic markets in Australia is simply too big to be ignored. As more marketers see the potential of ethnic marketing and gradually gain experience and confidence in pursuing this alternative to mainstreaming marketing, it is envisaged that ethnic marketing would become an integral part of any marketing campaign in the long run

Line-by-line index inscription technique is used to write refractive index modulation in the core of SMF. The proposed pulse filamentation based index modification enables controlled and flexible writing of FBGs in optical fibers. Performance analysis of the fabricated FBG has been carried out for temperature, contact force, pressure, and axial strain sensing. The in-fiber FBG exhibits sensing performance very similar to FBGs commercially available to date. Then, the written FBG is engineered to demonstrate highly sensitive contact force sensor.

Index modulation in the core of single mode fiber (SMF) is written employing femtosecond pulse filamentation technique. Highly repeatable filamentary voids written in line-by-line femtosecond laser inscription technique enables steady and noise free growth of LPFGs. The sharp transmission valley (with a narrow full width at half maximum of 5 nm) of long period grating offers better resolution for refractive index (RI) measurement of a solution. The LPFGs inscribed by femtosecond laser radiation show RI sensing sensitivity of 29.199 nm/RIU which is three times higher than the sensitivity of LPFGs written by UV radiation (sensitivity: 11.179 nm/RIU). The position of transmission dip of a grating can be tailored relatively easily simply by varying the period of index modulation. © (2013) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). Steganographic and watermarking information inserted into a color image file, regardless of embed... more Steganographic and watermarking information inserted into a color image file, regardless of embedding algorithm, causes disturbances in the relationships between neighboring pixels. A method for steganalysis utilizing the local binary pattern (LBP) texture operator to examine the pixel texture patterns within neighborhoods across the color planes is presented. Providing the outputs of this simple algorithm to an artificial neural net capable of supervised learning results in the creation of a surprisingly reliable predictor of steganographic content, even with relatively small amounts of embedded data. Other tools for identifying images with steganographic content have been developed by forming a neural network input vector comprised of image statistics that respond to particular side effects of specific embedding algorithms. The neural net in our experiment is trained with general texture related statistics from clean images and images modified using only one embedding algorithm, and is able to correctly discriminate clean images from images altered by data embedded by one of various different watermarking and steganographic algorithms. Algorithms tested include various steganographic and watermarking programs and include spatial and transform domain image hiding techniques. The interesting result is that clean color images can be reliably distinguished from steganographically altered images based on texture alone, regardless of the embedding algorithm.

Cytogenetic analysis of the t(9;22) and molecular detection of BCR/ABL is the main diagnostic criteria in Philadelphia positive CMPN (CML). The identification of non-receptor tyrosine kinase JAK2 mutations (exon 14 JAK2 V617F and exon 12) have significantly contributed to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms in the pathogenesis of Philadelphia negative CMPN such as polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF) patients. According to the revised WHO classification, JAK2 mutation is considered as a major diagnostic and clonal marker in Philadelphia negative CMPN which will play a major role in designing personalized treatments for the disease. JAK2 V617F mutation frequency is unknown in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, investigation of the JAK2 V617F mutation was carried out in DNA samples from 78 peripheral blood specimens corresponding to patients with polycythemia vera (PV) (n = 11), Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) (n = 45), essential thrombocythemia (ET) (n = 10), idiopathic myelofibrosis (MF) (n = 12). We used polymerase chain reaction and direct DNA sequencing to detect the JAK2 mutation. Overall, the incidence of the JAK2 V617F mutation was 91% in PV, 40% in ET, and 25% in MF. This approach proved to be reliable and more sensitive in detecting the mutation. Two essential findings arose from our study. First, this technique could be carried out with DNA samples, even partially degraded, from routinely processed BM or peripheral blood specimens. Second, after correlation with morphological features, it turned out that the characteristics of the megakaryocytes were more specific than the mutational status of JAK2 in characterizing ET and PMF. Concerning PV, as expected, the incidence of the JAK2 mutation was higher, but the morphological criteria were misleading in some cases, strongly suggesting that the combination of both morphology and molecular data would enable the characterization of virtually all cases. JAK2 V617F mutation frequency along with accurate morphological characterization is very reliable tool in diagnosing and classifying CMPN in Saudi patients.

Wavelet features of a set of rotationally distorted training images are first extracted at different levels of resolution. A simple composite filter formulation is then employed to construct the reference image of the JTC. Simulation results are presented showing the improved rotation-invariant detection performance of the proposed technique.

Palm fiber was collected from ten different trees of different age group from Comilla region in Bangladesh. Three sets of samples were prepared for three different wt% (5%, 10% and 20%) of fiber contents. The mechanical (tensile strength, flexural stress, micro hardness, Leeb's rebound hardness) and physical (bulk density and water absorption) properties were measured. The observed result reveals that the tensile strength (TS) and flexural stress (FS) were decreased with increasing fiber contents in the PF-ABS composites except 10% fiber content.

We have previously shown that a diketopiperazine structurally related to the TRH metabolite cyclo-his-pro reduces neuronal cell death in vitro and in vivo. Here we report the neuroprotective activity of other cyclic dipeptides in multiple in vitro models of neuronal injury and after controlled cortical impact (CCI) in mice. Using primary neuronal cultures, three novel dipeptides were compared to the previously reported diketopiperazine as well as to vehicle controls; each of the compounds reduced cell death after direct physical trauma or trophic withdrawal. Two of these peptides also protected against glutamate toxicity and beta-amyloid-induced injury; the latter also strongly inhibited glutamate-induced increases in intracellular calcium. Treatment with each of the test compounds resulted in highly significant improvement of motor and cognitive recovery after CCI, as well as markedly reducing lesion volumes as shown by high field magnetic resonance imaging. DNA microarray studies following fluid percussion induced traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats showed that treatment with one of these dipeptides after injury significantly down-regulated expression of mRNAs for cell cycle proteins, aquaporins, cathepsins and calpain in ipsilateral cortex and/or hippocampus, while up-regulating expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, hypoxia-inducible factor and several heat-shock proteins. Many of these mRNA expression changes were paralleled at the protein level. The fact that these small peptides modulate multiple mechanisms favoring neuronal cell survival, as well as their ability to improve functional outcome and reduce posttraumatic lesion size, suggests that they may have potential utility in clinical head injury.

However, AEA also binds to vanilloid (VR1) receptors and induces cell death in several cell lines. Here we show that anandamide causes neuronal cell death in vitro and exacerbates cell loss caused by stretch-induced axonal injury or trophic withdrawal in rat primary neuronal cultures. Administered intracerebroventricularly, AEA causes sustained cerebral edema, as reflected by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging, regional cell loss, and impairment in long-term cognitive function. These effects are mediated, in part, through VR1 as well as through calpain-dependent mechanisms, but not through CB1 receptors or caspases. Central administration of AEA also significantly upregulates genes involved in proinflammatory/microglial-related responses. Thus, anandamide produces neurotoxic effects both in vitro ...
