Het toepassen van "grepen" die in het gips de juiste afsteunplaatsen kunnen accentueren in de koker voor een prothese, of de gewenste correcties voor de schoenleest kunnen vastleggen bijbijvoorbeeld een voet in spitsstand, is een sinds jaar en dag toegepaste techniek. Het gevoel van de orthopedisch technoloog speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol.Dit artikel geeft een inleiding op hoe dit "gevoel" digitaal kan worden vaatgelegd.

Iedere dag worden vele diverse materialen gebruikt voor het vervaardigen van orthopedische schoen... more Iedere dag worden vele diverse materialen gebruikt voor het vervaardigen van orthopedische schoenen, orthopedische zolen en aanpassingen aan bestaande schoenen. Op basis van ervaringen en best practices worden de diverse materialen geselecteerd en verwerkt tot schoenen van hoge kwaliteit. Echter, wanneer de materiaaleigenschappen van deze materialen worden opgezocht, blijkt vaak maar een zeer beperkte hoeveelheid informatie beschikbaar te zijn. Het project “Materiaalonderzoek voor de orthopedische schoentechniek” heeft tot doel de beschikbare kennis en informatie over de materiaaleigenschappen te vergroten. De resultaten van het materiaalonderzoek moeten beschikbaar komen in een database waarmee, bij het ontwerpen van orthopedische hulpmiddelen, materialen gericht met elkaar vergeleken worden op relevante eigenschappen. Uiteindelijk zal in de wat verdere toekomst het mogelijk moeten worden om het effect van een materiaalkeuze op de functionaliteit van de schoen op de computer te sim...

Praktische Intelligenz, kognitives Verstehen und Durchdringen komplexer Wissenszusammenhange sowie schopferisches Gestalten lassen sich nicht trennen. Immer wieder neu jedoch muss deren Zusammenwirkung auf allen Stufen der Bildungseinrichtungen erfasst und diskutiert werden, um zukunftsweisende Folgerungen zu ziehen und umzusetzen.Haben der Ruf nach „employability“ und allgegenwartig anpassungsfahiger „mobility“ derzeit vielleicht eine zu starke Verschiebung zur Anwendungsorientierung ergeben? Welche Bedeutung haben Wissenschafts- und Forschungsorientierung fur das Erneuerungspotential der Technik? Befahigt die derzeitige technische Ausbildung junge Menschen, nachhaltige Antworten auf die Herausforderungen der UN Post Millenium Goals zu geben?Antworten auf diese Fragen zu finden – und zu diskutieren, wie dies in Ausbildung und Studium, im Prozess des Lehrens und Lernens, gefordert, bestarkt und erprobt werden kann – dazu laden wir ein, an der diesjahrigen Regionaltagung, zu der die Fontys University for Applied Sciences nach Eindhoven einladt, Beispiele vorzustellen und Grundsatzfragen zu diskutieren. Eine Besonderheit an dieser Tagung wird sein, dass wir die Forderung von MINT-Interessen und –Talenten in der Schule behandeln und auch die Lehrerbildung einbeziehen.

Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) to promote walking ability are a common treatment in patients with neu... more Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFOs) to promote walking ability are a common treatment in patients with neurological or muscular diseases. However, guidelines on the prescription of AFOs are currently based on a low level of evidence regarding their efficacy. Recent studies aiming to demonstrate the efficacy of wearing an AFO in respect to walking ability are not always conclusive. In this paper it is argued to recognize two levels of evidence related to the ICF levels. Activity level evidence expresses the gain in walking ability for the patient, while mechanical evidence expresses the correct functioning of the AFO. Used in combination for the purpose of evaluating the efficacy of orthotic treatment, a conjunct improvement at both levels reinforces the treatment algorithm that is used. Conversely, conflicting outcomes will challenge current treatment algorithms and the supposed working mechanism of the AFO. Im Gegensatz zu regularen Schuhmachern, die Schuhe fur gesunde Fuse machen, helfen Orthopadieschuhmacher Menschen mit Fusproblemen, welche ihre Mobilitat behindern. Die Orthopadie-schuhmacher tun dies durch die Anpassung oder Anderung von Schuhen, je nach Schwere des Mangels des Fuses, in einem Bereich von einfachen Modifikationen der Standard-Schuhen bis zu vollstandig masgeschneiderten Schuhlosungen. In der Vergangenheit wurden die Orthopadieschuhmacher im Rahmen einer Lehre in der Berufspraxis ausgebildet. Auf diese Weise wurden berufliche Kenntnisse, Fahigkeiten und Fertigkeiten des Schuhmachermeisters an die Lehrlinge/Gesellen von Generation zu Generation ubertragen. Daarmee worden communicatie en informatie-uitwisseling essentiele onderdelen van de podotherapeutische praktijk. Dat gebeurt in toenemende mate online. Tot hoever kunnen we daarbij gaan? In de serie Zorg en techniek bespreekt de auteur ontwikkelingen in de techniek, die van invloed zijn of worden op de podotherapeutische zorgverlening en praktijkvoering.
This article discusses the importance of fully integrating research activities into the Bachelor ... more This article discusses the importance of fully integrating research activities into the Bachelor level programs (undergraduate programs) in orthopaedic engineering / prosthetics and orthotics. To work according to evidence based principles and acquire the competences to do so it is necessary for students to engage in research activities from within the educational programme as soon as possible. Involvement in research not only creates more insight in what research means and what the effects are, but also generates a number of cross links with the stakeholders involved in P&O education (see fig 1) which were not apparent before for the student. Also, the interaction with orthopaedic companies is stimulated in a broader context than is traditionally the case. A structure enhancing the interaction of educational institution, companies, research groups and institutions is presented which operates at the intersection of these stakeholders. A whole new world is therefore coming into range...
In the pursuit of better products and more satisfied patients, the orthotic field is constantly e... more In the pursuit of better products and more satisfied patients, the orthotic field is constantly evolving by improving existing and developing new devices. Despite many efforts by professionals in development and innovation of orthopaedic devices, three important problems can be defined: non-use, dissatisfaction, and underexposed problems. This study investigates the orthopaedic practice from a philosophical perspective. At first, a distinction is introduced between professional and user practices. After that, the relationship between man-technology and the aspects of the user practice will be explained. Finally we will discuss our view on successful use of technology as a result of considering the user practice from the perspective of the different aspects.
