Less effort has been put on the applications and services that will leverage and exploit such advanced 5G capabilities. 5G-MEDIA is a new R&D project funded by EC under 5G-PPP Phase 2 H2020 programme, which aims at investigating how media-related applications should be coupled and interwork with 5G networks to the benefit of both.

We show how conceptual modelling can capture the most complex features of an audiovisual Web search portal, which allows users to pose advanced queries over multimedia materials, access results of queries using multimodal and multi-channel interfaces, and customize the search experience by saving queries of interest in a personal profile, so that they can be exploited for asynchronous notification of new relevant audiovisual information. We show how model-driven development can help the generation of the code for sophisticated Rich Internet Application front-ends, typical of the multimedia portals of the future.

Even if automatic detection of Fake News and disinformation is not possible for the moment and not in the intention of the authors, Machine Learning technologies and Big Data analysis can strongly support journalists and media professionals to detect disinformation in their day-by-day working activity. The paper presents some results of a running EU co-funded project, named FANDANGO, describing its technological approach and architecture. In the first and second chapters the context of disinformation is presented, in chapter 3 and 4 the FANDANGO project is shortly described, including its AI approach and dataflow architecture, chapter 5 describes the project use cases: climate change, immigration, and European policies. Finally, some short conclusions conclude the paper with g...

A large number of business and application areas depend on the efficiency and availability of search techniques that are capable to process and retrieve heterogeneous and dispersed data. These include: a) the Web, b) mobile devices and applications, c) social networks and social media, and d) enterprise data access and organization. The objective of this document is to provide an overview of the business areas, the research challenges and the socio-economic aspects related to “Search Computing”.

In this paper we want to discuss the approach taken by the History of Europe application, a demonstrator for the integration of human and machine computation that combines the power of face recognition technology with two distinctively different crowd-sourcing approaches to compute co-occurrences of persons in historical image sets. These co-occurrences are turned into a social graph that connects persons with each other and positions them, through information about the date and location of recording, in time and space. The resulting visualization of the graph as well as analytical tools can help historians to find new impulses for research and to unearth previously unknown relationships. As such the integration of human expertise and machine computation enables a new class of applications for the exploration of multimedia archives with significant potential for the digital humanities.
