All compounds were characterized by GPC, UV spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, FT-IR, (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra. The fluorescence emissions (λmax 430 and 412 nm) of 1 × 10(-3)M solutions of AA-NA and AA-PA in water were significantly higher (ca. 82% and ca. 90%) than those of the molar equivalents (0.2mg) of NA and PA present in the 1 × 10(-3)M solutions of the amides, respectively. These fluorogenic pyridine carboxylic acid amides of agarose may find applications as sensors in biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.

The galactans were characterised by FT-IR, 13C NMR, GC-MS, ICP, GPC and rheological measurements. G. debilis produced exclusively non-methylated galactan exhibiting the greatest gel strength of 650±25 g cm−2 and lowest sulphate of 0.21±0.06%. On the contrary, G. salicornia polysaccharide was composed of non-methylated galactose (major) and mannose (minor), having gel strength of 510±25 g cm−2 and sulphate of 0.45±0.06%. Very low heavy metal contents were determined in both the galactan samples, which may thus be potentially useful in food and biological applications.

The reaction conditions were optimized by varying the concentration of AAm and KPS to obtain copolymer hydrogels having different nitrogen contents e.g., %N 6.35, 10.56, and 11.05. It was observed that copolymer hydrogel having %N 11.05 gives superior adhesive properties whereas copolymer hydrogel with %N 10.56 produces superior absorbent properties in the presence of optimized concentrations of AAm (0.87 and 1.1428 mol/L respectively) and KPS (0.022 and 0.0296 mol/L respectively). The product with %N 6.35 is a soft gel (2–5% gel in 1% KCl) exhibiting low gel strength (135 g cm−2). The one with %N 10.56 showed superior swelling property and maximum swelling was observed in the alkaline pH (22 g/g). The swelling behaviors of the hydrogels were studied at different pHs (pH 1.2–12.5) as well as in 1% aqueous solutions of NaCl, KCl, and CaCl2. The 5% dispersion of the hydrogel having %N 11.05 in water had good binding properties with papers, polyethylene sheets, and wood pieces. To evaluate the measure of adhesive property, the viscosity and solid and liquid weights of the applied adhesive were measured. Characterization of the copolymer hydrogels was done by TGA, X-ray diffraction, 13C-NMR, FT-IR, elemental analyses, and rheological studies. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The reaction was carried out with microwave irradiation in the presence of a water-soluble initiator, potassium persulfate. Optimum microwave irradiation conditions for obtaining hydrogels of the grafted products were achieved. The structural characteristics and thermal stability of the grafted blends were studied by Fourier transform infrared, 13C-NMR, and thermogravimetric analyses. Appearance of new IR bands at 1661, 1465, and 1426 cm−1 in the grafted products indicated the insertion of PVP into the polysaccharide structure. Powder X-ray diffraction studies revealed the enhanced crystallinity in the products compared to in the control polysaccharides as well as PVP. Agar and κ-carrageenan were grafted to a considerable degree, with 62.5 E % and 125 G % for agar-graft-PVP and 65.5 E % and 131 G % for κ-carrageenan-graft-PVP. Optical micrographs of the grafted blends indicated considerable changes in the morphology of the agar and the κ-carrageenan, substantiating the X-ray diffraction data. A plausible mechanism for the crosslinking of PVP to agar and κ-carrageenan is proposed. These hydrogels exhibited enhanced water-holding capacity despite weaker gel strength than that in the respective control polysaccharides. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Each cellulose sample was fractionated to yield alpha (α) and beta (β) celluloses. Characterization was done using various analytical tools and results were validated by comparison with those of the cellulose obtained from Whatman filter paper No. 4. The greatest yields of cellulose (crude), α- and β-cellulose were obtained from Gelidiella acerosa (13.65%), Chamaedoris auriculata (9.0%) and G. acerosa (3.10%). G. acerosa was also found to contain relatively high amount of α-cellulose (8.19%). The lowest cellulose contents were recorded from Kappaphycus alvarezii (2.00%) and Sarconema scinaioides (2.1%), while the latter contained the lowest α-, and β-celluloses (1.0% and 0.30%, respectively). It appears that agarophytic and alginophytic algae contain high cellulose and α-cellulose contents, while the carrageenophyte contains low cellulose. The brown algae, in general contain high cellulose as well as α- and β-celluloses.

This paper will study on the probe mark and its effects for copper wire bond integrity and stress test reliability performances. The increased probe touchdowns on bond pad exhibited greater risk resulting to deeper probe depth. Recent studies using gold wire bonding have reported that the limit for probe mark area damage should be limited to maximum of 30% [1] for 45μm ball size whilst other paper suggested maximum of 20% [2] of the probe mark area in order to achieve reliable gold ball bonding. While this paper focused on palladium coated copper (PdCu) wire bonding, the 10% ~ 50% range of probe mark area studied did not exhibit any related wire bonding failures across all legs during assembly. Failure analysis data results i.e intermetallic (IMC), pad crater test and ball bond cross-section for aluminum remains did not show much significant difference. Remarkably stress reliability test followed by destructive test did show some degradation results from unbiased HAST while HTS and temp cycle test did not reveal any failure during ball pull test. Reliability test data analysis concluded that the probe mark area should be limited to max of 30% for 35±2μm ball bond size while probe depth maximum at 80% from the original Al pad thickness or 20% of the Al thickness remains after probe as shown in figure 5 in order to achieve a reliable copper wire bonding process. This paper will share those probe marks criteria for considerations, challenges and recommendations when qualifying new packages for copper wire bonding process.
