Therefore, in a multi-ethnic society like Nigeria with marked plurality of religious views among the citizens, there is the inevitability of clash. Of course, the country has been ravaged by ethno-religious conflicts. One major cause of ethno-religious violence whose effects have not been satisfactorily examined is inflammatory language. Unfortunately, the use of inflammatory language has become prevalent in Nigeria. The situation provokes concern and interest in public discourse and intellectual circle. This research is an attempt to examine critically the effect of inflammatory speech on ethno-religious violence in Nigeria. The methodology employed in this work is historical approach functioned by the use of secondary sources. The findings made clear the fact that the ethno-religious conflicts which divide Nigeria are mainly induced by unguided utterances. It is therefore, recommended that the use of such languages as derogatory, anger and hate speeches be avoided completely in order to curtail the incessant religious related conflicts in the country.

Though religion has played vital role in the society, and has contributed immensely to the national development of this country. It has also been wrongly used by some ethnic groups to afflict this country severally with conflicts leading to wanton destruction of properties and loss of human lives. Obviously, there has been too much blood letting in this country resulting from ethnic and religious conflict which is threatening the very foundation of Nigeria's corporate existence as a nation. The menace of ethno-religious conflict in Nigeria is fast eroding the core socio-cultural and religious value which forbids murder, covetousness, falsehood etc. It has hampered the economic growth of this country to such a great extent that poverty has engulfed the majority of the citizen. Worst still the mayhems have produced many disabled persons, orphans and widows, it has robbed many, of their comfortable homes, jobs and careers; it has left the citizens with enduring sorrow very hard to contend with. This research is set out to establish that ethnic and religious conflicts constitute a hitch to national integration. The researcher adopted historical research method. The findings made clear the fact that the peace and love which is the core religious value has not been exploited.

The primary aim of establishing such a school is for grass root evangelism. It was a success story in Nigeria during the colonial days because it helped the church to Christianize the people in the area of its operation thereby expanding its missionary frontiers. Despite the fact that it was challenging running such schools, the missionaries were determined to succeed. Focusing not on monetary gains but on their goal which was to win converts, the missionaries made sacrifices to fund the schools. The forceful takeover of schools by the military junta from the original owners disrupted the system. Soon after, indiscipline, low moral standard and poor quality of education set in. The private sector tried to intervene but with poor managerial skill thus, its schools became so costly. To save education from total collapse, the Church in its various denominations began to establish new schools and also agitate that its former schools be returned to them for better management. This study is an attempt to reorient the proprietors of mission schools. The researcher adopted historical research method. The findings made clear the fact that the objectives of the present proprietors of mission schools differ considerably from those of the past proprietors.

Before the pandemic there were the issues of insecurity, religious and racial bigotry, climate change, poverty and so forth, which to a large extent have affected humanity negatively. The lockdown, which was introduced as a measure to curb the spread of the virus, exacerbated the anguish of the already tense world. Suddenly, the government proscribed gatherings of people in large numbers, thereby suspending economic, cultural and social activities. The continued increase of the COVID-19 cases necessitated the shutdown of worship centres. It was the first time churches would be shut down in Nigeria. The incident provoked concerns and interests in public discourse and intellectual circles. Therefore, this study examines the effects of COVID-19 on churches, using a historical approach and basically depending on secondary sources from available literature and Inte...

It is rooted in mysterious element of African traditional culture. There are few, if any African societies which do not believe in witchcraft of one type or another. Africans believe that the hand of either God or evil forces may be seen in any event. However, the fact that witchcraft is mystical and occultic, and secret makes the phenomenon difficult to investigate. It is a nut too hard to crack. Because of its secret nature, it's not easy to identify the real witch or wizard. Though both men and women can be witches/wizards women are mostly accused or suspected, most especially old women and of recent children. This work is an attempt to explore and understand witchcraft belief in African traditional societies. Phenomenological research approach was adopted to gain more knowledge on the subject. Findings showed that African traditional societies belief in witchcraft. This belief has both negative and positive impact on African societies. Recommendations were made among others, that human rights should be protected.

Many retreats for the bishops in the missionary dioceses have been held from late 2000 to date, in an effort to find solutions to the problems, yet the problems have continued unabated. The situation provokes concern and interest in public discourse and intellectual circles. This study examines critically the problems of missionary dioceses and the effects of such problems on the workers and their families therein using a historical approach and both primary and secondary sources. The findings show that some of the missionary dioceses were created with poor funding and facilities as there was no adequate preparation for their creation. The study therefore recommends that the Church of Nigeria should support the missionary dioceses to stabilize.

It does not consider religion’s particularity but is interested in the ideas that have not favoured any religion. The issue with this concept is not its assertion of the validity of all religions. It is rather with its denial of the finality of any religion as the way by which people could come to God. Hence, it allows the existence of multiple religions in a given society and encourages religious tolerance. The beauty of pluralism is its flexibility which makes religious practicing a wilful act and religious conversion a choice and not a force, although it has the tendency to encourage syncretism. This research examines critically the implications of pluralism using historical approach on the development of Christian church. Data for the research were basically obtained from secondary sources. The findings reveal that although religious pluralism...

The Bible is replete with narratives and proverbial statements which border on conflict scenarios and conflict resolution strategies. Conflict cannot be severed from relationships between biological brothers and sisters, Christians, friends, colleagues and husbands and wives. In this qualitative study, the researchers examined the menace ‘conflict between husbands and wives’. There is no husband and wife relationship which is devoid of disputes and conflicts. In husband and wife relationship, conflict situations could arise from lack of sexual discipline, lack of sexual satisfaction, finance, lack of communication and other areas. The thrust of this article was to examine conflict resolution principles in the light of biblical proverbs. Biblical proverbs refer to concise and wise sayings in the Bible, which give pieces of advice about everyday life. From the inception of Christianity in Nigeria, it has been inculcating in its adherents’ uncompromised moral values, respect for human life and dignity through adequate education and social tasks. Unfortunately, social critics have constantly but erroneously, underestimated the contributions made by Christian missionary work in Nigeria. Therefore, this research was an attempt to specifically show that Christianity is genuine; it has made great strides in the areas of education, agriculture, healthcare and rural development. Its contribution to national development will be portrayed in this work. Christianity was committed to upholding social justice, equality and people’s welfare, all of which helped a country achieve national development. The purpose of enumerating the contributions of Christianity was to correct the bad impressions which the social critics might have ge...
