We investigated whether aggregated TL-associated variants are associated with the risk of breast cancer in 2,865 breast cancer cases and 2,285 controls from the Shanghai Breast Cancer Genetics Study. Few studies, however, have investigated the influences of a combination of antioxidants. We evaluated the association of two dietary antioxidant indices, the Dietary Antioxidant Quality Score (DAQS) and the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI), with 10 oxidative stress or inflammation biomarkers (urinary F2-isoprostanes-15-F2t-IsoP; urinary 15-F2t-IsoPM; urinary prostaglandin E2 metabolite-PGEM; C-reactive protein-CRP; interleukin-1beta-IL-1β; interleukin-6-IL-6; tumor necrosis factor-alpha-TNF-α; soluble TNF-receptor 1-sTNF-R1; soluble TNF-receptor 2-sTNF-R2; and soluble GP130- sGP130) in 3,853 participants of the Shanghai Women's Health Study (SWHS). Prior epidemiologic studies have been inconsistent regarding the association of PUFAs and colorectal cancer. We prospectively evaluated the association between PUFA intake and colorectal cancer in a cohort of 73,242 Chinese women who were interviewed in person at the baseline survey for the Shanghai Women's Health Study. Dietary fatty acid consumption was derived using data collected from two food frequency questionnaires administered at baseline and 2 to 3 years later. The dietary total n-6 to n-3 PUFA ratio was strongly associated with colorectal cancer risk. Compared with women in the lowest quintile group, elevated relative risks (RR) were observed for the second [RR, 1.52; 95% confidence intervals (CI), 1.00-2.32], third (RR, 2.20; 95% CI, 1.41-3.45), fourth (RR, 1.65; 95% CI, 0.99-2.75), and fifth (RR, 1.95; 95% CI, 1.07-3.5...

During a mean follow-up of 12.7 years, 37,343 cancer deaths (36,667 in East Asians and 676 in South Asians) were identified. Adenomas (adenomatous polyps) is an important precursor of colorectal cancer. There is currently no study to determine the modifiable risk factors for colorectal adenomas, including body mass index (BMI) in Vietnam. We conducted an individually matched case‐control study of 1149 colorectal adenomas and 1145 controls in a large‐scale colorectal screening program involving 103 542 individuals aged 40‐75 years old in Hanoi, Vietnam. Conditional logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between BMI and colorectal adenomas prevalence, after controlling for potential confounders. Overall, comparing to normal weight (ie, 18.5‐22.9 kg/m2), underweight (ie, BMI < 18.5) was associated with a non‐statistically significant increased prevalence of colorectal adenomas (odd ratio [OR] = 1.29 and 95% confident interval [CI]: 0.88‐1.87). This association became significant among male (OR = 1.98, 95% CI: 1.20‐3.27), mal...

Methods: Using data from the Singapore Chinese Health Study, a prospective cohort of 63,257 middle-aged or older Chinese men and women, four QDI scores: the Alternative Health Eating Index-2010 (AHEI-2010), the alternate Mediterranean Diet (aMED), the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), and the Heathy Diet Indicator (HDI), at baseline were calculated. After 25 years of follow-up, 311 cohort participants developed pancreatic cancer. Cox proportional hazard regression method was used to estimate HR and 95% confidence interval (CI) for pancreatic cancer associated with higher QDI scores. Results: Higher scores of AHEI-2010, aMED, and DASH were significantly associated with lower pancreatic cancer risk (all Ptrend < 0.05). Compared with the lowest quartil...

Research paper thumbnail of Association between body mass index and colorectal adenomas: Findings from a case‐control study in Vietnam
