This paper examines some linguistic differences that exist in male and female writing styles of Arabic novels. Some classes of lexical and syntactic features that identify the author's gender are specified. The paper finds significant differences in the frequent use of some features such as colour, tag questions, verb vs. noun in initiating paragraphs, slang, taboo and euphemistic terms. in particular, males tend to use many more nouns in initial paragraphs compared to females who tend to use fewer of this category. Females are more conservative in using sex-related words whether implicitly or explicitly. Females generally speaking seem to be more attentive and more likely to pay specific attention to detail, which in turn influences their style. Finally, a noticeable correlation between the characteristics of male-female writing and the literary genre (novel) is demonstrated. The source material consists of two modern novels written by a male and a female, who are native speakers of Arabic and considered as canonical figures by some Arab and Jordanian critics.

The component of literature revealed common properties essential in the community and the way language is used to express cultural values, thoughts, behavior, feelings, opinions, and beliefs. Therefore, it is vitally important to include literature components into classroom teaching since it encourages more thoughtful and authentic language learning. This study aimed at analyzing the quantity of literature components in Action Pack Series (1-10) currently used at public schools in Jordan. To achieve the study objectives, a total of (50) male and female teachers of English answered a questionnaire devised for this purpose in addition to (15) supervisors of English were interviewed. Content analysis and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The data has been carefully analyzed and revealed that a very limited number of literary texts were embedded in the current textbooks, and they were not distributed equally. The inclusion of literature components in APS (1-6) was completely marginalized. The study underlined the importance of including additional literary texts in Action Pack Series for a variety of benefits mentioned in the paper. The researchers recommended presenting a proper perspective by syllabus designers and methodologists to integrate adequate literature components in the prescribed textbooks.

From the moment of birth, the two genders are taught to follow different codes of behaviour that are compatible with the societal roles stipulated for each gender. Many linguists and sociolinguistics believe that because male and female have different life experiences, the way the two genders speak and write will differ. The question of identifying such differences has exercised linguistic researchers for decades. The studies of difference in the language used by males and females have mainly focused on phonological and lexical differences in their spoken medium and informal writing such as student essays, personal letters and electronic messaging. The language used in novels, plays and poetry seems to be an area which so far has not been thoroughly elucidated. This paper explores and examines the general beliefs whether professional authors, particularly literary writers, could perceive and identify any linguistic difference...

The aim of the study is to explore the authors' treatment of jobs attributed to male and female characters. A content analysis of the discourse of textbooks used in grades 1 to 9 has been carried out. The results indicate that the textbooks reflect the culturally-prevalent gender bias. While males practice a variety of jobs and are portrayed as effective and dominant characters in the labor market, females practice traditional jobs such as teachers and nurses. The paper also addresses the implications of the gender-biased messages depicted in textbooks for learners' perceptions.

The corpus of the study included (100) male university students. A socio-pragmatic approach was adopted to analyze the data. The study employed Simak Libat Cakap technique in addition to the qualitative method to analyze the data of the study. The analysis of data showed that the face was the most frequent body part used in swearing followed by the head. The main findings revealed that swearing is dominantly used to express a socio-pragmatic function of angriness, especially when swearers feel angry with their disputers. Swearing functions as a vehicle for releasing tension and anger and proved to be powerful in exchanging insults. The study concluded that swearers usually do not mean what they say. Swearing mostly includes non-literal meanings like idioms. Therefore, it should not be interpreted literally; otherwise, it will lose its connotative me...

The results are in conformity with the findings of international gender studies, thus providing further support to the claim that the difference between male and female styles of writing is more of a truth than a myth.
