Research paper thumbnail of The effect of vertical facial height changes in position and angulation of condyles for class i malocclusion after orthodontic treatment

Global journal for research analysis, 2020

The changes in vertical facial height may have an effect to the changes in condyles position and its angulation. However, the changes in vertical facial height after orthodontic treatment often trigger controversies. The objective of this study is to understand if the change in vertical facial height can affect the position and the angulation of condyle. Methods: this research used a cross sectional methods with 30 sampel from a cephalometry radiograph before and after treatment with and without extraction. Changes in vertical height measured from MP-SN angle, position of condyles measured from distance Co-TC and distance CoT vertikal. Angulation of condyles measured from CoT -Tvertikal angle. Result and Discussion : Signicant changes were found in vertical facial height without extraction sample (p<0.05). however, there were no signicant changes found in vertical facial height with extraction sample (p>0.05). No signicant changes were found in position and angulation of condyle with or without extraction (p>0.05). there were no signicant correlation found between the changes in vertical facial height and changes in position and angulation of condyle with or without extraction (r<0.5). Conclusion : Changes in vertical facial height will not give any signicant effect in the changes of position and angulation of condyles in Class I malocclusion.

Research paper thumbnail of Orthodontic Treatment Needs Based on Aesthetic Component (AC) among Adolescents in Medan

One of the most used index, Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need which consists of aesthetic component and dental health component. The aim of this research was to identify orthodontic treatment need based on aesthetic component among adolescents in Medan. This is a descriptive research with crosssectional design. Two stage stratification cluster sampling method were used. Total sample in this research were 400 adolescents in Medan. The results of this research stated that distribution of treatment need based on aesthetic component among adolescents in Medan were 210 individual (52.5%) for group AC 1-2 (no treatment needed), 112 individual (28%) for group AC 3-4 (mild treatment needed), 41 individuals (10.3%) for group 5-7 (moderate treatment needed) and 37 individuals (9.3%) for group AC 8-10 (great need for treatment). The conclusion from this research stated that most of the adolescents in Medan do not require orthodontic treatment.

One of the government's efforts to improve dental health rates for school students is the holding of the oral healthcare program (UKGS) in school. However, the oral healthcare program has not been evenly implemented and it is rare to conduct outreach about the use of dental braces. The purpose of this study was to increase knowledge about the correct use of braces in students of SMPN 34 and SMPN 36 Medan. This research was a descriptive study using 118 student samples from SMPN 34 and SMPN 36 Medan. The results of this study showed that was 92.6% of male students and 84.4% of female students knew that braces function was to straighten teeth, 79.6% male students and 78.1% female students knew the purpose of installing braces was for h...

The understanding of soft tissues of the face in relation to the dentoskeletal tissues is essential in esthetic orthodontic treatment. Study of soft tissue facial profile by photogrammetry provides better information on the facial morphology. This is a descriptive study with a cross sectional approach using level stratified-cluster sampling method. The subjects of this study are 200 high school students in Medan. Lateral photographs of each subject were taken and their facial profile was measured. Results: The facial profile of high school students in Medan are convex 92.5%, straight 5.0%, and concave 2.5%. There were no significant differences in the facial profile of high school students in Medan based on gender. The facial profile of high school students in Medan is generally convex.

This is a retrospective data collection of pre and post treatment lateral cephalographs from 18 to 40 years old patient treated with four premolars extraction. The alveolar mandibular bone thickness was identified in sagittal planes with Image-J software based on cephalometry lateral radiographs. Statistical analysis namely Wilcoxon test and Pearson correlation analysis coefficient were used to understand the correlation of alveolar mandibular bone thickness variables and mandibular incisors position to skeletal profile treated with first premolars extraction are presented. This data is essential for advancing in a further understanding of Class I skeletal patients with bimaxillary protrusion.
