Therefore, this study investigates students’ and English lecturers’ perceptions toward the Institutional English Test based on the Common European Frame of Reference administered in a public university in Vietnam. A survey of 103 students and 20 English lecturers from the Institutional Program was conducted. A questionnaire with 7 main concerns – weightage, time allocation, language skills, topics, question items, instructions and mark allocations was used to collect data. All responses were analyzed through descriptive statistics. That is the reason why teaching and learning English effectively play a crucial role in the development of educational system. However, students seem to be weak in communicative skills due to they are lack of English vocabulary knowledge. The aim of this paper is to seek out the evidence to prove that teaching games are very helpful in the language
classroom because this method helps to improve and increase students‟
vocabularies. The results show that language games not only enhanced
students‟ lexical knowledge but also made the lesson more enjoyable, students became motivated in learning English and had plenty of interactions with teachers and classmates. The study suggests that before employing games in the language classroom, teachers should choose appropriate materials, levels, contexts, topics, time allowance for games.

Testing and assessment is an important integral part of teaching and learning. In the field of la... more Testing and assessment is an important integral part of teaching and learning. In the field of language education, while many commercial English proficiency tests are available, they are rather costly and may not be appropriate for specific needs. Thus, many universities have designed their own English proficiency tests. This study investigated the validity of the Advanced Educational Program English Test (AEPET) at a public university in Vietnam. It focused on three types of validity: concurrent, predictive and content validity. Concurrent validity was investigated by determining the correlation between the students’ AEPET and IELTS scores, predictive validity through the correlation between AEPET scores and the students CGPA, while content validity concentrated on AEPET’s components and preparation. The results showed that AEPET scores significantly correlate with IELTS scores and CGPA. However, the results for content validity revealed moderate content validity. The paper will discuss the steps that can be taken to further improve AEPET’s validity. It is hoped that this research will serve as a model for efforts to increase the validity of in-house

The paper aimed to investigate the effects of using Quizlet for improving students' word retentio... more The paper aimed to investigate the effects of using Quizlet for improving students' word retention and explore the students' attitude towards this approach. A total of 35 students at a public university in Vietnam participated in this study. The data were collected by a vocabulary tests and questionnaire items to answer the two research questions. The findings showed that Quizlet application had positive effect on the students' word retentiveness. Data from the vocabulary tests scores demonstrated that Quizlet application helped the students develop and improve their vocabulary retention. Additionally, results of the questionnaire showed that most of the students expressed positive attitudes towards applying Quizlet application. The study also made some suggestions for lecturers and administrators to apply and use Quizlet application effectively in teaching English vocabulary.

The study aims at applying the flipped classroom model to improve speaking skills for students at a high school in Vietnam. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed in this study. The data of the study were collected from pre and post speaking test scores and semi-structured interviews. A total of 35 students and one English language teacher participated in this study. The test score results show that before attending the flipped classroom students' speaking skills were not really good enough; however, after the course students performed considerably better on the posttest than pretest. The interview results indicated that the majority of students have made progress and have been able to increase their fluency, pronunciation, comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary and students all felt quite satisfied because they have learned something new and can pronounce the words correctly. The findings of this study revealed that flipped education, which is a form of blended learning, boosted students' language learning, especially speaking skills.

That is the reason why teaching and learning English effectively play a crucial role in the development of educational system. However, students who have been learning and using two languages at the same time seem to be weak in communicative skills due to the stuttering in bilingual in which students seem to be mixing vocabulary or code mixing from both languages in one sentence. This leads to a matter of debate whether or not bilingualism can cause stuttering and several questions have been still open ragrading the prevalence and manifestation of stuttering in bilinguals. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to seek out the evidence to prove the relationship between stuttering and bilingualism. The results showed that bilingualism is the result as well as the direct cause of stuttering and the cognitive overwork possibly will be a contributing factor to this trouble. Therefore, it is suggested that both parents and teachers should hand in hand to raise children bilingually without stuttering.
