A questionnaire-based survey was carried out for the current study in order to stimulate informat... more A questionnaire-based survey was carried out for the current study in order to stimulate information from the respondents who comprises of 115 teachers and researchers of SMVDU. Krejcie and Morgan sampling table and stratified random sampling technique were adopted for calculating the sample size from the whole population. The process of analyzing the data was done by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), however in order to measure the level of significance of different revealed facts and difference among respondents of varied status, ‘Pearson’s’ and ‘Kruskal Wallis’ Chi-Square test (χ2)’ were used as per their need felt. The result of the study clearly reveals that among various available search engines, Google consistently ascertained to be exceedingly preferred search engines among teachers and researchers of SMVDU. Majority of academia of SMVDU prefer to use ‘Free Access’ web resources as compared to ‘Toll Access’ ones.

The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the performance and efficiency of the two most used searc... more The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the performance and efficiency of the two most used search engines after Google, i.e. Yahoo & Bing in retrieving internet resources at specific points of time using advance search techniques on single and double word queries. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study starts from an investigation of existing methodologies for evaluating search engines in order to find out the most important factors to decide which search engine to use when searching the World Wide Web. In order to examine retrieval efficiency of a search engine on the bases of various laid parameters like, coverage of a search engine, number of dead, missing & duplicate links retrieved by a search engine by using 20 single & double word queries by adopting advanced search technique. The data were evaluated using MS Excel spread sheet software. Findings: The findings of study reveals an explicatory results which clearly describes that different web search engines use different technology to find a particular web information. The overall analysis of the findings reveals that Yahoo is the leading search engine followed by Bing in terms of retrieving score, however Bing takes the lead in retrieving less number of dead and duplicate links while routing two term queries. Originality/value-The paper will provide important insight into the effectiveness of two major search engines and their ability to retrieve relevant internet resources. This paper has produced key findings that are important for all web search engine users as well as researchers and the web industry. The findings will also assist search companies to improve their services.

The present work is a small initiative towards preserving cultural resources and creating digital... more The present work is a small initiative towards preserving cultural resources and creating digital library of heritage sites and monuments of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The monumental wealth of Kashmir is very rare and is good example of diversified art and architecture of Jammu and Kashmir. The CARARE metadata schema was used for documenting these monuments and sites, Greenstone Digital Library Software was used for creating the Digital environment in the form of digital library. The whole study reveals that the monuments and heritage sites of Srinagar, J&K are not in good condition and thus need maintenance and preservation. It is our prime duty to take the matter in the eyes of the concerned authority and make them conscious about the decreasing wealth of nation so that the concerned authority will took some worthy steps for their preservation and conservation.

Further it focuses on a comparative study between United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK) the two developed nations. The study is exclusively based on the data collected from the Scopus database an Elsevier's abstract and citation database upto July 2017. With about 5927 (26%) of total number of active journals indexed by Scopus, USA has built significant influences headed for the progress of Open Access Scholarly publishing.

The present study measured quantitatively the current position and growth of Open Access archives... more The present study measured quantitatively the current position and growth of Open Access archives, at the first stage it gives a quantitative overview of Open Access archives established and published from different developing and developed countries. Further it focuses on a comparative study between United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK) the two developed nations. Open access journals indexed in Scopus database are being surveyed for this study. As the study is based on the data collected from the Scopus database upto July 2017, which shows that the total number of journals indexed are 36377 in which 63% of journals are active and about 37% are in active. USA is leading at the top by contributing 10141 journals (28%), followed by UK by contributing 7431 journals (20%) of total number of journals indexed by Scopus. With about 5927 (26%) of total number of Active journals indexed by Scopus, USA has built significant influences headed for the progress of Open Access Scholarly publishing.
