The initial treatment of BCC lesions is completing tumor removal. One of the standard therapy for BCC is wide surgical excision, as it is highly efficacious. A 76-year-old female patient complained of a wounded blackish lump on the left upper extremity for about 2 years. It started small, then grew bigger. Complained of itchiness, but no pain. The lump easily bled when accidentally touched. Dermatology examination identified a hyperpigmented nodule about 1.5 cm, with a clear border, irregular raised edges, slightly rough surface, and erosion. A dermoscopy examination showed short-fine telangiectasia, blue-grey ovoid nests, and ulceration. The patient was diagnosed with suspected BCC and underwent biopsy, also wide excision surgery. Histopathology showed pigmented BCC. One month later, ...

Studies on the effectiveness of psoriasis therapy in Indonesia are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the patient’s clinical improvement with moderate-to-severe psoriasis vulgaris using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index with ≥75% score reduction (PASI75). Methods: This is a retrospective study involving patients diagnosed with psoriasis vulgaris who visited the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital between January 2016 and December 2018. The electronic medical record obtained data on demographic characteristics, the number of visits, psoriasis at initial (PASI) score before and after treatment, type and dose of treatment, and comorbidities. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23 for Windows. Results: Overall, 54 patients with psoriasis vulgaris were included. Almost all subjects were adults (≥18 years old) and presented with severe PASI (PASI score &...

Surgical excision is the most common way to remove a tumor. The excision depends on the tumor type, size, and location. This paper reported a 44- years-old woman presented with the chief complaint of a single bump that bleeds easily in the facial region that began one year ago. Dermatology examination revealed hyperpigmented plaque with an ulcer in central, solitary, oval, 2 cm x 1 cm in size, covered with blackish crust on top. A Dermoscopy examination showed blue dots and globules, arborizing vessels, and ulceration. Histopathology examination findings were in concordance with BCC. The patient was treated with elliptical surgical excision. The lesion was successfully removed and showed good results with minimal scarring. BCC occurs in 75% of all skin cancers. Elliptical surgical excision on the left cheek was performed after considering the location anatomy, defect size, age, and general condition patient a...

The clinicians are faced with various factors affecting the resolution of the lesion, and no treatment has been considered ideal. Surgical has been preferable to conservative treatment but is still more likely to increase patients' desirability due to great discomfort. This study aims to evaluate the factors contributing to the resolution of callus and clavus. Methods: Retrospective analysis was done on 25 medical records of patients who met the inclusion criteria. Factors contributing to the lesion resolution were identified and analyzed using the SPSS version 17 program. Result: Among 25 (33.7%) patients recruited for the study, 13 were (52%) male and 12 (48%) female. The most common types of lesions were clavus (20 [80%]). In both cases, the distribution of lesion locations was mostly found in the lower extremities (20 [80%]). Excision was performed in 21 c...

There are various treatment modalities for sebaceous gland hyperplasia associated with the risk of pain, depigmentation, bleeding during the procedure, scarring, and recurrence. CO2 laser is one of the therapeutic approaches that are considered effective and safe. Case: A female patient came with the chief complaint of lumpy skin-colored lumps on the back of the ear to the left neck that had increased in number and had not been painful since about 4 years ago. Histopathological examination was performed on the lump showing hyperplasia of the sebaceous glands. The patient was treated with 2 CO2 Laser sessions with an even skin surface result. Research paper thumbnail of Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency in Erythema Nodosum Leprosum: Profile Study of Serum TNF- and Cortisol

Several in vitro studies have shown that clove leaf essential oil with the main content of eugenol can be an alternative therapy for oral candidiasis that is resistant to fluconazole. This study was conducted to determine the zone of inhibition of clove leaf essential oil and fluconazole against Candida isolates species that cause oral candidiasis in HIV/AIDS patients. This study showed that the average fluconazole disk 25 μg/mL inhibition zone in 20 isolates of Candida albicans species was larger than non-albicans Candida species. The zone of inhibition of clove leaf essential oil was significantly lower than that of fluconazole (p < 0.05), except at a concentration of 15% against non-albicans Candida isolates. Clove leaf essential oil has an antifungal effect that can inhibit the growth of Candida species, so it can be considered an alternative antifungal therapy. Clove leaf essential oil concentration of 15% showed no significant difference in antifungal activity with the standard drug fluconazole in isolates of non-albicans Candida species.
