The Optical Transpose Interconnection System (OTIS) optoelectronic interconnection network archit... more The Optical Transpose Interconnection System (OTIS) optoelectronic interconnection network architecture is a promising attraction in the new era of parallel computing topologies because of its attractive topological properties. Recently, many enhancements were presented on OTIS topologies including the Extended OTISn-Cube interconnection networks. Therefore, all performance improvement characteristics of such a promising architecture need to be investigated; one of which is load balancing technique. This paper focuses on developing an efficient algorithm for load balancing on the promising Extended OTIS-n-Cube interconnection networks. The proposed algorithm is called Factor-Optical-Factor Exchange Model. Furthermore, this paper presents theoretical and experimental study on the proposed algorithm in terms of various parameters including execution time, load balancing accuracy, number of communication steps, and speed. Results show superiority of the proposed algorithm over the well-known Clustered Dimension Exchange Method (CDEM) algorithm in terms of execution time, number of communication steps, and speed, while maintaining the same level of accuracy.

This paper proposes a new fault-tolerant routing algorithm for the well-known class of networks, ... more This paper proposes a new fault-tolerant routing algorithm for the well-known class of networks, OTIS-cube. In this new proposed algorithm, each node A starts by computing the first level unsafety set, S1 A, composed of the set of unreachable direct neighbours. It then performs m-1 exchanges with its neighbours to determine the k-level unsafety sets Sk A, for all 1 ≤ k ≤ m, where m is an adjustable parameter between 1 and 2n + 1. The k-level unsafety set at node A represents the set of all faulty nodes at Hamming distance k from A, which either faulty or unreachable from A due to faulty nodes or links. Equipped with these unsafety sets, we show how each node calculates numeric unsafety vectors and uses them to achieve efficient faulttolerant routing. Keywords: Interconnection networks, OTIS-cube, fault-tolerant routing algorithm, safety vectors.

A generalized Algorithm is also presented for embedding Hamiltonian cycle in the Extended OTIS-n-Cube. The recently proposed network has many good topological features such as regular degree, semantic structure, low diameter, and ability to embed graphs and cycles. Embedding Hamiltonian cycle is an important characteristic for any topology due to the usefulness of undertaking different types of broadcasting messages within interconnection networks. The proposed algorithm is capable to form a Hamiltonian cycle starting from any node in the network. Examples are presented on different network sizes showing complete paths of Hamiltonian cycles.

There have been a number of studies in the literature on the HHC to explore the promising topological properties of this topology. Furthermore, other studies extend this topology by combining it with OTIS technology to produce a new version called OHHC. We have found that there is a lake of presenting any point to point routing algorithm for the HHC, although there were some efforts on building routing algorithms for the OHHC. To cover this shortage, this paper introduces a new unicast routing algorithm for the HHC. The new routing algorithm for the HHC uses store-and-forward technique which allows a message to be transmitted through a path from the source node to the destination node. In addition to presenting the routing algorithm, we present an example to explore the algorithm steps and also an enhancement...

M-learning is distinct in its focus on learning across contexts and learning with mobile devices. It takes advantage of learning opportunities offered by using mobile devices and wireless transmission to enhance the existing learning management systems (LMS) that can potentially provide important opportunities for learning and collaborative interaction. Moodle is one of the most attractive LMS around the world due to its outstanding features and reliability. Although portable technology offered anywhere-anytime discussions, the technical problems encountered when using the WAPenabled phones hindered participation in the ediscussions. In addition to presenting technical aspects of the WAP, the paper also introduce the advantages and disadvantages of using mobile technology in the learning process. Furthermore, this paper discusses the suitability and feasibility of using WAP technology devices for distance learning in real-time.

Monodisperse latexes having a particle size in the range of 2 to 40 microns are prepared by seede... more Monodisperse latexes having a particle size in the range of 2 to 40 microns are prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization in microgravity. A reaction mixture containing smaller monodisperse latex seed particles, predetermined amounts of monomer, emulsifier, initiator, inhibitor and water is placed in a microgravity environment, and polymerization is initiated by heating. The reaction is allowed to continue until the seed particles grow to a predetermined size, and the resulting enlarged particles are then recovered. A plurality of particle-growing steps can be used to reach larger sizes within the stated range, with enlarged particles from the previous steps being used as seed particles for the succeeding steps. Microgravity enables preparation of particles in the stated size range by avoiding gravity-related problems of creaming and settling, and flocculation induced by mechanical shear that have precluded their preparation in a normal gravity environment.

AOU is the first regional university for open learning in the Middle East and North Africa. The university has strict regulations on the learning process to assure the quality of delivering all learning activities in an optimal way. Accordingly, there is a need to improve the existing learning management system to guarantee the implementation of such quality assurance regulations electronically to save time and cost and to perform all required procedures. In addition of describing the improvements, this paper also conducts a comparison between conforming with such regulations manually and the new online procedures over the learning management system.
