These devices are present in almost every aspect of people’s lives to such a degree that they have become indispensable for business. One important capability that the user demands is the ability to transmit data in real-time when these devices have limited re- sources such as short battery life, limited bandwidth, low computational resources and short transmission ranges. When the usage for such devices increases, a large amount of traffic is generated to the point that the user experiences long delays and/or response times that he or she may find uncomfortable or unacceptable; the shared transmission medium becomes over- loaded and congestion results. One solution to the congestion problem is the placement of wireless relays that use distinct portions of the radio spectrum currently unused to divert the traffic to a different direction. We present an on-demand algorithm that att...

Current mobile devices may reach the Internet via their multiple interfaces, i.e., WiFi and LTE. ... more Current mobile devices may reach the Internet via their multiple interfaces, i.e., WiFi and LTE. MPTCP is an ideal candidate to leverage these interfaces and make the network connectivity more robust. However, priority is given to battery conservation and turning off an energy consuming interface such as LTE while WiFi coverage is available is often the case. Even though MPTCP handles well under such conditions, it is vulnerable to handovers onto poorly performing new paths. In those scenarios, an MPTCP would be better off if the handover would not have occurred. In this paper we propose a proactive measurement of newly discovered paths as MPTCP hands over. Our algorithms leverage CapProbe to estimate the capacity in the new path and qualify its performance. We identify two metrics based on CapProbe partial measurements that declare the viability of a path to continue with the handover or revert back to the backup interface. We study our metrics and algorithm under a small test bed and real situations and show cases of MPTCP connections recovering from failed handovers.

By comparing RNA-Seq data from vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) extracted from carotid atheroma surgically excised from a group of asymptomatic and symptomatic subjects, we identified more than 700 genomic variants associated with symptomatology (p < 0.05). From these, twelve single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected for further validation. Comparing genotypes of a hospital-based cohort of asymptomatic with symptomatic patients, an exonic SNP in the BIRC6 (BRUCE/Apollon) gene, rs35286811, emerged as significantly associated with CVA symptomatology (p = 0.002; OR = 2.24). Moreover, BIRC6 mRNA levels were significantly higher in symptomatic than asymptomatic subjects upon measurement by qPCR in excised carotid atherosclerotic tissue (p < 0.0001), and significantly higher in carriers of the rs35286811 risk allele (p < 0.0001). rs35286811 is a proxy of a GWAS SNP reported to be asso...

A critical problem in current military wireless networks is that a loss of network connectivity due to wireless link outage or entity mobility takes relatively long time to recover. In this paper, we propose an alternative solution by applying Multi-path TCP and SoftwareDefined Networking on military wireless network to maximize the total throughput and minimize the traffic delay and jitter for the communication between ships and shore nodes. According to the Mininet-WiFi emulation experiment results, compared to current single-path TCP communication, our proposed approach provides almost no-cost network handover, more reliable network connectivity and higher end-to-end throughput. In addition, our designed SDN centralized controller is able to balance the traffic flows dynamically to effectively eliminate link congestion ...

Analysis: The front and lateral geometry of the front suspension was redesigned, later on by means of a kinematic analysis to obtain the system's dynamic behavior curves and with the development of components through CAD/CAE software (Autodesk Inventor Professional), and supported by a FEA analysis (ANSYS), the maximum stress values in critical operating conditions of the suspension are obtained. Results: The results indicated a mass reduction of about 20.96% for the entire front suspension system, the use of materials such as Al 6061-T6 aluminum axles with an elastic yield stress Sy=276 MPa and Al 7075-T6 aluminum blocks (Sy=503), for CNC machining have a high mechanical resistance capable of withstanding the maximum stresses generated in the movement of the suspension and through the redesign of the geometry, the correct configuration of the camber and caster angles and the height of the rolling center was determined to obtain the maximum grip of the tyre that will provide reliability to the prototype. New/Improvement: A topological optimization study is carried out to improve the structural shape of the component and thus obtain an adequate reduction in the mass of the component, in order to achieve better results in terms of the safety factor of the dynamic design (fatigue).

In a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) screen of this locus in a Basque population, rs28385692, a rare coding variant substituting Leu for Pro at position 16 emerged significantly (p = 0.02). This variant is located in the signal peptide (SP) shared by the three secreted protein isoforms produced by IL22RA2 (IL-22 binding protein-1(IL-22BPi1), IL-22BPi2 and IL-22BPi3). Genotyping was extended to a Europe-wide case-control dataset and yielded high significance in the full dataset (p = 3.17 × 10−4). Importantly, logistic regression analyses conditioning on the main known MS-associated SNP at this locus, rs17066096, revealed that this association was independent from the primary association signal in the full case-control dataset. In silico analysis predicted both disruption of the alpha helix of the H-region of the SP and decreased hydrophobicity of this region, ul...

The longest isoform, IL-22BPi1, does not bind IL-22, is poorly secreted, and its retention within the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is associated with induction of an unfolded protein response (UPR). Therapeutic modulation of IL-22BPi2 and IL-22BPi3 production may be beneficial in IL-22-dependent disorders. Recently, we identified the ER chaperones GRP94 and cyclophilin B in the interactomes of both IL-22BPi1 and IL-22BPi2. In this study, we investigated whether secretion of the IL-22BP isoforms could be modulated by pharmacological targeting of GRP94 and cyclophilin B, either by means of geldanamycin, that binds to the ADP/ATP pocket shared by HSP90 paralogs, or by cyclosporin A, which causes depletion of ER cyclophilin B levels through secretion. We found that geldanamycin and its analogs did not influence secretion of IL-22BPi2...

Multipath TCP offers the possibility to combine these radio technologies to improve network performance, allow robust handoffs, and maintain vehicle connectivity at all times. The proliferation of mobile devices with dual interfaces and the manufacturers' interest to make their vehicles smarter and more competitive create the ideal scenario for MPTCP on VANETs. In this paper, we study the performance of MPTCP on two VANET scenarios: Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), and Vehicle-to-Vehicle, (V2V) under distinct velocities.

Here, we cloned and identified two homologous BMP receptor genes, PfBMPR1B and PfBAMBI, from the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata. Real-time quantitative PCR and in situ hybridization revealed that these genes were expressed in mantle edge and pallial, specifically located at the outer epithelia. Knockdown of PfBMPR1B by RNA interference (RNAi) significantly decreased the expression levels of matrix protein (MP) genes and induced the abnormal ultrastructure of prismatic and nacreous layers. Conversely, knockdown of PfBAMBI significantly increased the expression levels of a portion of MP genes and induced the overgrowth of nacreous layer crystals. In the RNAi and shell notching experiments, MP gene expressions were competitively regulated by PfBMPR1B and PfBAMBI. In addition, the receptor inhibitor LDN193189 re...

To facilitate the integration of satellite and terrestrial networks, software-defined networking (SDN) is embraced which brings flexibility, user-customized services and reduces the cost of network configurations. However, it has been long known that communications via LEO satellite network suffer from long delay and frequent ground-satellite handovers, both are problematic for TCP connections. The emergence of Multipath TCP (MPTCP) provides a new solution to these challenges. In this paper, we study the performance of MPTCP over SDN-enabled LEO satellite networks. MPTCP maintains multiple simultaneous subflows in space to increase throughput. In anticipation of handover, MPTCP creates subflows that run in backup mode and shifts traffic smoothly. To support MPTCP, we design an SDN controller that identifies MPTCP subflows attached to the same MPTCP session and splits them to disjoint paths. The SDN architecture centralizes the routing logic, so the system is more scalable and on-board processing is minimized. Simulations are run to evaluate the proposed MPTCP-SDN framework. It is shown that compared to previous solutions, our strategy significantly improves throughput performance and prevents the interruption of transmission during handover.
