Most of the assistant systems use English for their Human Machine Interaction (HMI) such ‘SARA’ a virtual socially aware robot assistant which exclude Malay socio-emotional aspects. This scenario opens a suggestion, to internalize socio-emotional aspects based on Malay culture, custom and beliefs to military autonomous training systems (i.e. MIN@H) that can improve the ‘collaborative’ skills between Malaysian military personnel and the systems. Therefore, to increase the wisdom of the systems, they must have feature to capture information for their human users or helping human users to learn new knowledge and ensure the interaction is comfortable and engaging. For that reason, the systems must understand Malay language and be able to interpret emotion and expression behavior according to the Malay culture and custom, furthermore, the systems able to differentiate the level of user’s understanding and build a good rapport or feeling of harmony that makes communication possible or easy between the systems and users. This concept of the systems is referred as Malay Artificial Wisdom System (AWS). There are three fundamental aspects to achieve the AWS. First, to computationally model the conversational strategies and rapport between the system and human users based-on user’s understanding and system’s articulation. Second, to computationally model, recognize and synthesize the emotion and expression behavior according to the Malay culture, custom and beliefs. Third, the AWS can do analytical reasoning and responding in relation to falsehood analysis and users’ understanding level. Knowledge discovery and inference technique as well as HMI that cater the inputs and output of the MIN@H will be developed to accomplish the AWS concept. This program could embrace military training system in Malaysia to enhance military personnel skills and experts in various areas.

Specifically, this paper addresses the challenges of educating delinquent youths in the country. As a developing nation, Malaysia faces various issues pertaining social and youth development. The question explored in this study is whether delinquent youths in Malaysia are neglected in terms of systematic and adequate education. In Malaysia, delinquent youths are sent to correctional facilities all around the country, where they are separated from school systems, their families and communities; it can be argued that these youths are deprived of moral support from society. This paper aims to identify the challenges around educating delinquent youths in Malaysia and to recommend potential solutions to these challenges. Methods: The research approaches adopted for this paper included content analysis of printed documents and preliminary informal interviews wi...

Nonetheless, focus will be more on Adat Perpatih because the smaller number of practitioners of the ‘adat.’ As this is a preliminary paper, content analysis of previous research was used to facilitate discussion. Findings of this paper suggest that no one culture is solely based on abstraction nor concreteness. This is especially exemplified by the norms and values of Adat Perpatih, which can be categorised as a more concrete society.

On the basis of the students' academic achievement each semester, it is high time for the management at MAM to consider some learning solutions to help SISKA. One of the possibilities is the implementation of e-learning -the concept whereby the educational process is brought anywhere that the students choose to be. However, before MAM can proceed with the adoption of e-learning, several aspects must be considered carefully. This conceptual paper attempts firstly to identify the need for elearning at MAM and secondly to identify the pedagogical issues of e-learning in military settings. The method used in the paper is textual analysis. Major findings show that, as a military academy, MAM must inevitably face some pedagogical issues. These issues must be addressed, should e-learning be adopted, so that not only SISKA but also the academy will benefit from such e-learning. The pedagogical issues canvassed in this paper should be considered if MAM plans to adopt e-learning for the purposes of teaching and learning.

The National Defense University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur (NDUM) was the subject for observations and an informal survey. The findings of this chapter argue that there are technical, theoretical, and pedagogical challenges that need to be overcome when using an NLLC in language classrooms. With the rise of information and communication technology (ICT) and the Internet, tertiary military institutions are pressured to implement e-learning technologies in their learning environments. However, not many institutions have the capacity to do so. The author argues that the adoption of an NLLC for an institution that has resources constraints can help determine the potential of using e-learning technologies to help students acquire the target language better.

Berdasarkan daripad...

This paper explores the challenges and opportunities faced by the researcher and her students when a learning activity previously implemented in face-to-face sessions was transferred into an online learning environment. The learning activity, known as Work-the-Walk (WTW), is a transformative learning activity designed by the researcher, and the researcher has filed for a copyright of WTW. The objectives of this paper are to identify the challenges and opportunities raised by transferring WTW to a digital format, and ultimately to suggest the best ways to make the transition from a physical learning activity to a digital format effectively. Qualitative approach to research was used to obtain data for analysis and discussion. Preliminary findings suggest that the Digit...

As face-to-face sessions allow students to ask questions directly to the facilitator, a conducive learning environment helps to promote students’ learning. This work in progress attempts to examine the seating arrangement of students in the classroom and its potential to improve students’ learning. It is argued that seating arrangements based on students’ academic record in the previous semester will help to enhance their participation and learning in the classrooms. As a work in progress, data presented in this paper derived from reviews of relevant documents and preliminary observations in classroom sessions. Informal semi structured interviews were also conducted with five students who were involved in the sessions. It can be concluded that students have positive views about the assigned seating arrangements. As the process of collecting data is still ongoing within the next two semesters, the res...

This is because the aim of the courseware, amongst others, is to facilitate and improve the conditions of students' learning and knowledge retention. This paper attempts to critically discuss three learning theories that are crucial in designing simulation courseware to be used in a military setting. Introduction Military institutions are considered to be amongst the oldest organisations in the world. Since the time of Plato, military organisations have often been called the guardians and the public respects them as such. Given their special role, most governments need to ensure that their military institutions are ready to defend the country and such readiness depends critically on comprehensive education. The question addressed in this paper relates to learning theories that are suitable in designing simulation courseware to be used in tertiary military academie...
