Core agencies include the police, social care, and health, with key features of co-location, joint decision-making and coordination. A standardised definition for MASH implementation does not exist, and this lack of a clear definition has meant various structures have emerged, impacting on safeguarding practices. This policy brief draws on workshops with a range of safeguarding practitioners between May and July 2022, about the challenges of collaborative working practices and how MASH can become more standardised. Whilst national standardisation is required, there needs to be flexibility when implementing guidelines, so that practices and processes reflect regional needs and resources.

A key finding was that Indian leadership shares some aspects of global leadership traits, but factors such as culture and religion are significant influences on their leadership style and philosophy.Findings– The findings are helpful to both practitioners and policy makers seeking to understand the leadership style of Indian CEOs.Originality/value– Many qualities of a good leader, as defined by Indian CEOs were derived from the Hindu mythology (Bhagvad Gita,Mahabharata,Ramayanaand the fourVedas).

It contributes to the idea of relational leadership as a conceptual device for studying leadership in transnational working in the England-EU sub-national setting, and surfaces dilemmas faced by sub-national leaders in transnational working during significant policy turbulence. We find that while England-EU transnational working at the sub-national level is likely to survive the disruption of Brexit, a significantly changed policy environment presents new, underestimated relational challenges for city and regional leaders.

Other than nationally elected members of parliament, councils remain in many states the only collective body subject to universal, democratic elections, and exist as a voter's most immediate link to governing power. Functions carried out by councillors, and the role they play within communities and local government, are thus essential to strong, localised democracy, despite claims that councillors are 'amateurish' or local politics incidental to an ever-globalising world. Indeed, such criticisms habitually ignore the intertwined elements of local, national and international decision-making, and in turn the crucial role councillors’ play in ensuring citizens and local interests remain represented therein. Without councillors, democracy overall would find itself drastically weakened, and the gulf between citizen and power widened. Local councillors thus provide a first port of call for citizens to have a say in the running of their towns, cities and communities where their voice would be lessened if national legislatures were the only forum of representation.
