2016 IEEE 1st International Conference on Power Electronics, Intelligent Control and Energy Systems (ICPEICES)

In today's world due to fast and rapid depletion of the conventional and nonrenewable energy ... more In today's world due to fast and rapid depletion of the conventional and nonrenewable energy resources it calls upon the requirement for sources of alternative energy, clean, green, and renewability are the top priorities. Using wind power to produce electricity is a perfect fit. Because wind energy has become the least expensive source of new electric power that is also compatible with environment preservation programs many countries promote wind power technology by means of national programs and market incentives. Also it provides an effective solution for reduction of fossil fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The wind turbines are used for the generation of wind energy, simple in construction, economical and which gives appreciable output. Wind shear is one of the major factors affecting the working of wind turbines. Vertical shear, or the change of winds with height, either enhances or diminishes the vertical draft strengths. Input parameters and output parameters vary with different turbines. Flicker voltage is one of the major parameter concerned with the wind turbine parameters. Voltage flicker are caused due to heavy loads periodically turned on and off in a weak distribution system. This paper presents the effect produced in the output voltage and flicker voltage due to vertical wind shear in conventional type of wind turbines. The objective of this paper is to introduce the assessment parameters of the wind energy production of sites and pairing between the sites and wind turbines.

Hot water is used to remove the ice accumulated on the wind turbine blades. The pipes are embedded in the wind turbine blades. The pipes which are embedded may be made up of copper or steel or any other thermally conducting material. The water pipe is connected to the blade from the water tank placed at the ground. The water is heated by water heater. The water heater may be an electric heater. The water may also be heated by gas geyser. The water pump is used to circulate the water from the water tank to the wind turbine blades. When the water pump is started it circulates the water through the water heater and the wind turbine blades. The pump keeps the water circulating through the wind turbine blade until the ice melts and falls down. In the environmental conditions favorable for ice accretion on the wind turbine blades, the pump circulates water through wind turbine blade after frequent intervals of time to prevent ice accretion on the wind turbine blades.

Various types of prime movers may be used in the test set up. These prime mover motors can be DC motor, induction motor, synchronous motor or permanent magnet synchronous motor. The generator may be any kind of generator like DC generator, induction generator, synchronous generator, permanent magnet synchronous generator etc. The speed of the prime mover motor is varied. As the generator is coupled with the motor speed of the generator is also varied. The speed of the generator is varied over a wide range. The impact of the change in the speed of the generator on the output and output voltage flicker is observed. The gear box is also provided. It can be connected in between the generator and the motor. So the speed of the generator is increased. The impact of gear box on the power quality also can be observed. The test is carried on the generator with and without gearbox. The impact of gear box and variat...
