The right decision on the way to manipulate resources is very critical and therefore Principals in secondary schools have the duty to integrate a diversity of elements so as to make good decisions within their institutions. While systematic and good decisions may cause sanity in the way operations take place in schools, haphazard and autocratic decisions may destroy any developmental focus of the school. In the Kenyan school context, a number of disturbing events have been witnessed in schools which point to the way Principals of secondary schools make decisions and how effective the decisions they make aid in the management of the institutions. Often, the decisions which Principals of schools and who are assumed to have been trained make about their schools culminate into notable differences in the way the decisions impact on the development and performance of the schools. Poor decision making has caused unwarranted strikes that have seen the destruction of property and in some cases death in schools. This study sought to establish the need to retrain both the management and the administration of schools on how to make and implement sound decisions in their schools.

Using interviews, documentary analysis, and observation as data gathering instruments, the chapter reveals that higher learning institutions face numerous student-support related challenges including poor Internet and narrow bandwidth, erratic electricity and lack of alternative power, computer illiteracy, scarcity of study materials including e-resources and the absence of affirmative institutional policies. The chapter contends that for blended learning programmes to remain viable, effective, and sustainable, students support services need to be carefully tailored and regularly evaluated. Further, thorough decisions need to be undertaken regarding the design and development of effective student support which are contextualised according to respective institutional needs.

There is an urgent need to move beyond the question of which delivery model is most effective: face-to-face, fully online, or blended, and switch the focus to teaching pedagogy and strategies that effectively engage students in the learning process. This chapter posits that student-learning outcomes are less dependent on delivery mode and instead dependent on a…

The study explored faculty views on what they envision would be the program’s goals and purposes and their work-related challenges. Data were collected from all full-time faculty using a survey instrument distributed through Survey Monkey. Findings show that junior faculty with limited work experience in arts and social sciences, business, and education were more positive about the program. The faculty were more likely to support the program if its goals and purpose focus on their career aspirations in terms of excellence in teaching and scholarship. Professional-related challenges identified relate to the need to develop skills to teach effectively, undertake and publish rigorous research, and secure competitive grants. The findings suggest that incipient faculty development programs wo...
