Kamala Lakshmi Naiker is a PhD student at The University of Fiji. Her thesis is Changing names, changing places: The transformation of female identity through translocation in four novels by Bharati Mukherjee. She is a Head of Department and Lecturer in the Department of Language, Literature and Communication. She has attended various International, and National conferences. Her publications are in peer-reviewed local and international journals.

Her books deal with concerns of application for numerous migrant women in the present day-in expressions of sexual category identification, equal opportunity, and assimilation. The aim of this paper is to evaluate Mukherjee's The Tiger's Daughter for commitment with the diversity of dilemmas that women are confronted with today; centering particularly on concerns of diaspora, the article will investigate the means in which the work of fiction deals with the hurting of emigration, estrangement and separation, which being an essential component of the immigrant woman's incidents. Prostitution has been a long time problem in most developing countries like Fiji. This paper exam... more Prostitution has been a long time problem in most developing countries like Fiji. This paper examines the problem of prostitution in Fiji and its socio-economic impact. It also aims to present a bigger picture in which the proliferation of prostitution is not only increasing, but there are various problems that have come up with this practice such as the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections including HIV and violence against sex worker. The researcher discusses some few programmes and policies that will help reduce the problem of prostitution. This study employs a cross-sectional method. A face-to-face interview was conducted to 10 female participants in Nadi and Lautoka using the snowball sampling. An analysis of existing documents related to prostitution and critical review of the related literature are also utilized to gather information. Prostitution is known as the world’s oldest profession and considered as an active and profitable enterprise in the middle ages....

A very serious and sensitive issue often ignored by all. For many centuries people have been expressing their views and opinions on certain issues with the help of literature. Literature acted as a medium of expression of thoughts and ideas which writers wanted others to gain insight of. The literary world was there to stay but there were many stereotyped ideas which the males had about the females. Women writers had been excluded from the literary canon and have been misinterpreted in the works of male writers.

Teenage suicide rate in Fiji is increasing every year. This paper examined on the factors that le... more Teenage suicide rate in Fiji is increasing every year. This paper examined on the factors that lead to students’ suicide in Fiji as well as the school’s roles in preventing suicide attempts. Based on this study, the researchers found out various causes of student suicide in Fiji. Parents and teachers are involved in curbing this problem. Several factors that cause student suicide are identified during data gathering. A structured questionnaire was distributed to the 20 participants of the University of Fiji. The study can help guide the development of campus-based prevention programs at the university.
