Analysis of ear morphology plays a role in understanding the sexual dimorphism and stature in the human population. It has been found that the ear morphology changes from one region to another. Aim: To study the morphometric parameters of the ear for stature estimation, and to identify sexual dimorphism in north Indian population. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study of 200 subjects (100 males and 100 females) aged 17-25 years was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The study participants were selected from the MBBS, BDS and Nursing undergraduates studying in Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The various aspects of ear morphology (ear lengt...

In males, the second to fourth digit ratio (2D:4D) have lower values than females but the mean digit ratio remains the same with age. This ratio is considered to be a biomarker of the balance between Foetal Testosterone (FT) and Foetal Oestrogen in a nearly embryonic stage. Aim: To determine the correlation of 2D:4D ratio in swimming beginners. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional pilot study was conducted in the swimming pool facility of Banaras Hindu University Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India from March 2019 to June 2019. A total of 118 (59 females and 59 males), swimming beginners participants having age between 18 to 27 years were selected and cross-sectional samples were taken for the study. Participants passed all the stages of swimming learning under a well-trained coach for six weeks. In the last week of ...

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and pattern of the intensity of p63 protein and PCNA in normal oral mucosa and OSMF using immunohistochemistry (IHC) and to correlate the expression of these biomarkers. Materials and Methods: A total of 15 archival paraffin-embedded blocks obtained from our department, which were histopathologically diagnosed early OSMF (n = 4), intermediate OSMF (n = 4), and advanced OSMF (n = 2) and normal mucosa (n = 5), were taken as the standard for comparison. p63 and PCNA positivity was analyzed using Kruskall-Wallis test followed by p...

One in three people has been suffering from obesity all over the world (Global nutrition report 2020). The management of obesity with its comorbidities will therefore require a comprehensive range of strategies that specialize in those with existing overweight problems and also at high risk of developing obesity. Different literature reviewsare considered regarding different approaches as prescribed drugs, bariatric surgery, etc., for weight loss, have their certain side-effectsexcept for dietary approaches. Hence, in this study, prevention of obesity by nutrients intake and timing interplay with a proper dietary approach will be considered in priority, as it is a risk of persistence to all age-group populations. This article highlights various preventive aspects, factor influence and treatment procedures of obesity with special emphasis on the recent research manifolds.

A classic tool of nanotechnology labs, the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), could help with the paper message found in the crime scene described at the beginning of this article. This device allows details of a surface at the nano-scale level to be seen. It measures the forces exerted among a microscopic sharp tip and the atoms of the surface. This procedure can be used to examine ink crossings and determine which of two lines has been written over the other. This information could prove crucial in understanding certain documents, such as a contract with a contentious amendment. Because of applying knowledge and techniques from natural science, forensic science aims to identify, individualize and evaluate evidence. Evidence will then be used to reconstruct crime scenes, guide investigations and bring criminals to justice. Nanotechnology has been applied towards these purposes. This study helps to know the different mode of traumatic cataract and their visual outcome. Materials and Methods: A hospital based prospective study done in Department of ophthalmology of a medical college 30 cases of traumatic cataract excluding complicated cataract, congenital cataract etc. underwent detailed history and local examination with investigations. Data was analysed with regard to relationship between mode of trauma and final visual outcome achieved with surgical technique. Patients were followed-up at 1 week, 1 and 6 months and visual acuity was recorded. Results: A 56.6 % sustained penetrating trauma while 43.2% got blunt trauma. In blunt trauma postoperative cases BCVA was 6/18-6/12 and penetrating trauma cases 6/60-6/18. A 35.2% patients had corneal opacity among penetrating injury which was most common cause for reduced visual acuity. Conclusion: This study provides data of different mode of Traumatic cataract and visual outcome depends on the type of injury and its presentation.

Research paper thumbnail of An approach based on classifier combination for online handwritten text and non-text classification in Devanagari script

Although a few works exist in this regard in different non-Indic scripts, to our knowledge, no study is available to classify handwritten text and non-text document in online mode in any Indic script. The present method uses various structural and directional features analysed in elliptical regions to extract feature values from strokes of text and non-text data. The features are then studied separately in classification platforms based on Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The probabilistic outcomes of these two classification platforms are then combined using DST to improve the system performance. The efficiency of the present system has been measured on a self-generated dataset and it provides promising result.

The proposed unit cell is the combination of two resonators named as Resonator-I and Resonator-II. Both the resonators are designed on the top of FR4 epoxy dielectric substrate with completely metal laminated on the bottom side. The designed absorber structure offers a great amount of miniaturisation with a footprint area of 0.17λ0 × 0.17λ0 × 0.017λ0; here, λ0 is the free space wavelength with respect to lowest absorption peak. The proposed absorber structure shows two absorption peaks of 99.76% and 95.85% with FWHM (Full Width at Half Maximum) bandwidth of 340 MHz (8.34–8.68 GHz) and 540 MHz (9.76–10.30 GHz) at the frequencies of 8.51 and 10.03 GHz, respectively. Further, the absorptivity of the designed structure has been investigated under distinct oblique and polarisation incidence angles. In order to explain the mechanism of absorption of the proposed absorber structure, electric field distribution, surface current distribution and input impedance plot have been studied. The fabrication and measurement for designed absorber structure have been carried out to verify the simulation results. The designed absorber structure can be suitably used for defence-related ultrathin applications.

Measurement is done in microwave test bench, as shown in Figure 9. Aluminum foil paper is used as metal. Fabrication is done by laser cutting machine. In measurement setup, FSS is placed between a transmitting and a receiving horn antenna. R&S made vector network analyzer (VNA) (ZNB20) is connected with the transmitting horn antenna to generate microwave signal. Received power is measured by a power sensor which is displayed in VNA. To maintain a stable structure of doublelayer FSS, polythene foam is used as stand. Plastic pins and piece of papers are used to form double-layer structure by keeping 2 mm gap between two single-layer curved FSSs. Maintaining 10 mm gap, polythene foam with the same width is used between two layers of curved FSS, which is shown in Figure 11. Simulated and experimental results for aperturetype curved double-layer FSSs are shown in Figures 10 and 12, respectively, which are in good agreement. A good bandwidth and sharp roll off are achieved for planar and curved FSS also. In case of curved double-layer FSS with 2 mm gap, higher roll off factor is achieved; that is, 66 dB/GHz than single-layer curved FSS. 8 Also, a very good transmission band is obtained in double-layer curved FSS.
