Executive control processes are important in sport and occupational settings where a person is being asked to make decisions while performing physical work. We have done this study, to determine the effects of acute moderate intensity exercise on cognitive domains and to apply this knowledge in various fields where cognition and executive functions are important. Study and control population each consists of 60 apparently healthy subjects in the age group of 18-30 years. Methods:The material used for study Cosco Upright Exercise Bike and Reaction Time apparatus. Visual Choice Reaction Time, the examiner presented visual stimuli at random to the subject. The subject saw the light displayed on his side and pressed the appropriate corresponding button as quickly as possible and the reading wa...

It is necessary to identify the stress levels & its causes at earliest so that early interventional measures can be adopted. This study aimed to find out prevalence of stress in medical students & to compare level of stress in males and females. Methodology: Total 338 medical students were evaluated for the presence of stress and its levels (mild/moderate/severe) using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10).Gender difference for stress levels was compared using student’s ‘t’ test. Reasons for stress were evaluated by a questionnaire. Results: The total prevalence of stress was 57.9% and the prevalence of severe stress was 10.6%. It was found that level of stress was significantly higher (p

B.S. students. For this, objective was, to develop marking scheme for each structured component of long answer questions and short notes in the written examination for easy correction and increasing reliability of assessment. Methods - We considered a hypothesis that, there is no significant difference in the marking of long answer questions and short notes when the marking scheme was used (objective method ) and when it was not used (traditional subjective method). We considered objective method of assessment of written examination as more reliable method. We corrected answer papers of 110 students by abovementioned two methods of assessment. We checked whether there is any significant difference in the marking done by two methods by applying student’s t test. We also checked for what is that difference by analyzing mark lists. We took feedback from examiners to find o...

Research paper thumbnail of Comparison of VO2max in obese and non-obese young Indian population

This study was aimed to find out whether obesity affects cardiorespiratory efficiency of young adults. As VO2max is the most accepted indicator of cardiorespiratory efficiency it was compared in 30 obese and 30 non-obese subjects aged around 18-20 years. VO2mx was estimated by Queen's college step test. Various other parameters measured and calculated are weight, height, BMI, skin fold thickness, percentage body fat, lean body mass, fat mass. The results showed that cardiorespiratory efficiency (absolute VO2max & VO2max/kg lean body mass) was not affected (P > 0.05) in obese group in both sexes. Ability to do exhausting work (VO2max/kg body weight) was less in obese group (P = 0.001) compared to non-obese group & in obese males (P < 0.01) as compared to non-obese males. Percentage body fat (r = -0.416), triceps skin fold thickness (r = -0.427) and calf skin fold th...

Another goal was to create interest in learning by making it more interactive. As per the requirement of a competency-based medical education curriculum, we tried to use a novel teaching method called Flipped classroom method to meet our goals. Hence, the objectives of this study were: (1) To compare the effect of flipped classroom method and didactic lecture on students’ performance in the topics from renal physiology by MCQ test. (2) To obtain students’ perception about flipped classroom method in learning physiology. (3) To obtain teachers’ perception about flipped classroom method in teaching physiology. Flipped classroom method was introduced for teaching two topics in renal physiology for first MBBS students. This cross-over experimental study included 112 first M.B.B.S. students, after taking their informed consent and Ethics Committee...
