Women play a vital role in farming system and contribute substantially in the physical aspect of ... more Women play a vital role in farming system and contribute substantially in the physical aspect of farming, livestock management, post-harvest and allied activities. Around 43% of the agricultural labour force of developing countries is composed of women but they are often deprived from decision making process due to financial dependency. India has achieved self sufficiency in agricultural production, but a considerable amount of food product gets spoiled in every year due to improper postharvest operations. To uplift the livelihood and financial conditions of the rural women value addition of horticultural crops can offer tremendous opportunity. The paper discusses different value added product of horticultural crops and their utilisation pattern for large scale employment generation among rural women.

At present, many farmers are not satisfied with their agriculture production. The villagers struggle to get rid of subsistence livelihood. The shital pati / cool mat weaving is to be one of the potential enterprises for sustainable livelihood generation in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. In this perspective, the study was conducted in Dholuabari, Deochorai, Barokodali, Dhalpal villages of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal in December 2019 to January 2020 know the perception of cool mat weaver related to cool mat weaving entrepreneurship. Randomly 100 respondents who were engaged in cool mat production were selected for the study, and from each village 25, of respondents are taken. An interview schedule was designed to collect the primary information where secondary data were collected from panchayat pradhan, mediators, literature, research papers...

Iron is one of the most important micronutrients essential for human subsistence which is availab... more Iron is one of the most important micronutrients essential for human subsistence which is available in our diet through different vegetables (leafy vegetables, leguminous vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, cucurbits, potato, sweet potato, drumstick etc.) but especially the leafy vegetables. The different leafy vegetables are the reservoir of different vitamins and minerals that mostly include calcium, phosphorous and iron. Iron deficiency leads to anaemia is a threat throughout the world, more specifically found in women and children. Enrichment of iron content of these leafy vegetables can be achieved through iron fertilization which may play vital role to alleviate the problem of anaemia. Besides this, less bioavailability of non heme iron content (iron in plants) is also a big challenge.
