Was he a non-nationalist but simply an assimilationist and reformer? The whole life of Jose Rizal is well known to every Filipino since he considered as the national hero of most Filipinos. His portraits and statues can be seen throughout the school and other historical places, and his birthday and death anniversary are commemorated yearly. His works are even included in the curriculum, and he is considered the National Hero of the Philippines. He is well-known worldwide as someone who bravely and fearlessly writes Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, which is mainly about propaganda and represents the reign of oppression, corruption, abuses, exploitation, and greed of the Filipino native experience in the Philippines under Spanish rule. Many people caught their attention to his novel, including Filipino native and foreign people, as well as Spaniards, friars, and even government officials who were all familiar with his writings. However, each of these individuals had a different viewpoint about what he'd want to be addressed. Throughout the series of reading about the work and unbiased opinion about Rizal, I've learned things I didn't know before, either because they weren't introduced to me or because I never took an interest in them. In short, throughout the whole reading, my

It is said that national heroes or great heroes are the people who sacrifice for our native land Philippines. They showed their love for every Filipino and our country's land. They consider this as the source of inspiration for this generation to be patriotic. Our country is deemed to have numerous great heroes in the past, but if we ask or search for our country's national hero, we can commonly hear and see their answer is Jose Rizal. Since elementary, it was also taught to us that Jose Rizal is the National Hero. I read and heard different stories about Rizal, and they always describe how heroic Rizal was in fighting for our freedom against Spanish colonialism. In elementary, everything they taught about Rizal was his greatness, that we should see him as our role model, a noble, brave, reputable, and genius man. Everyone wants to be great and genius; he is also the Philippines National hero, so I come to believe that he is chivalrous and unselfish. However, as I unravel his story, I discover so much truth that I did not know about him. I began to question myself, does every Filipino honestly know about Jose Rizal? or maybe were already have enough knowledge about him but not of the other hero of our country. An American sponsored hero Governor William Howard Taft proposed in 1901 that the Philippine Commission to the Filipinos be designated a national hero. The Free Press of December 28, 1946, reports on the Philippine Commission's meeting as follows: 'And now you must have a national hero.' These fateful words were said., announced by then Civil Governor W. H. Taft to the Filipino members of the city commission, Pardo de Tavera, Legarda, and Luzuriaga, lay the genesis of Rizal Day. (Veneration Without Understanding.doc, 2021) Jose Rizal had already died before the US aggression happened in the Philippines. The Americans chose him because he did not have any anti-American opinion. Also, Rizal was a reformist advocate; he believed that education is essential for our country to achieve liberty. He did not support the armed revolution, so his principle would not hinder the goal of Americans to Invade the Philippines. Americans do not want the Filipinos to have a hero who wants a revolution because that causes propaganda against them.

This story became a foreshadow or reflection of what Jose Rizal had been through throughout his life. Jose Rizal chooses to continue walking on the dangerous, perilous path despite all of the warnings. Perhaps Jose Rizal knew from the start that no matter how cruel and hazardous the course was for him, it was his destiny to walk on that beautiful flame, to have an act of courage on to reach that flame of freedom that was not ought for him but the people in his country.
