Materials and Methods Patients with Morgagni hernia who were operated on between January 2005 and July 2020 were included in the study. Patients were divided into two groups (CS or SP-PIRS) and compared retrospectively in terms of demographic data, defect size, duration of hospitalization, costs, postoperative complications, and recurrence. Results Thirty-two patients were included in this study. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of gender, defect size, postoperative complications, and recurrence (p > 0.05). The SP-PIRS group had a shorter operation time (p

A 14-year-old boy admitted with cramping abdominal pain and vomiting. Physical examination revealed right lower quadrant tenderness. Appendectomy was performed. On the histological section, typical actinomycotic (sulfur) granules in the appendiceal lumen were observed.

Testicular adrenal rest tumors (TARTs) are may have serious consequences in patients with CAH. They probably develop from ectopic remnants of intratesticular adrenal tissue, which might be stimulated by the rise of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Their histological differentiation from Leydig-cell tumors is extremely difficult.[1]

Materials and Methods: This prospective study involved children receiving redo orchiopexy for recurrent undescended testis. Patients were recruited to assess testicular position, volume, blood flow and presence of microlithiasis. Testis volume was measured by ultrasound and compared with recently developed normative values for testicular size. Results: A total of 38 patients (40 testes) required redo orchiopexy were reviewed in the study. Thirty three of invited boys could be investigated as long term participation. As a result of long term follow up; 28 of the testes were at scrotum, 2 of them were at inguinal canal and 3 of them were non-palpable, with a 15% failure rate of redo orchiopexy. For all patients evaluated in the control visit mean testis volume was 1.23 mL, at 24 of whom were significantly smaller than the normative values for the same age (p<0.001). Eleven of the testes (33.3%) had microlithiasis. The average of duration between primary and redo orchiopexy was 13.5 months in the group of normal volume testes, 23.3 months in the group of significantly smaller testes (p=0.056). Conclusion: The long-term volumes of testes after redo orchiopexy were significantly less than the normative values. Frequent and long time follow up of operated undescended testes and early intervention of recurrent cases may improve outcomes of surgery.

Tissue damage, ischemia-reperfusion injury and inflammatory response are mainly responsible for increasing serbest oxiygen radicals. In this study, we aimed to investigate the use of thiol-disulfide and ischemia-modified albumin levels as a diagnostic laboratory parameter in trauma children. Method: Of 202 children, 101 of them were hospitalized in pediatric surgical intensive care unit with trauma and 101 of others were healthy children. Levels of native thiol (-SH), total thiol (SH + SS), dynamic disulfide (SS), dynamic disulfide (SS) / total thiol (SH + SS), albumin and ischemic modified albumin (IMA) were measured from the sera of patients and healthy volunteers. For statistical analyses, SPSS 17.0 was used. Mann-Whitney U and paired correlation test were used where appropriate. p <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean age of the patients in the trauma group (Boys: 61 Girls: 40) was 7,88 years a...

The treatment is simple excision of the mass surgically which should not be delayed. We operated a male newborn due to intraoral mass causing episodic deglution and respiration problems. The histopathology was reported as epignathus and this case is discussed based on the current literature because of its rarity.

Twenty-nine patients, managed for gastroschisis during 2000-2010 were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were analysed in respect to gestational age, birth weight, associated anomalies, type of delivery, operative procedures, postoperative complications, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) related complications. The factors affecting mortality and morbidity were determined. Associated abnormalities were present in 24% of the patients. Eleven patients underwent elective reduction in the incubator (Bianchi procedure) without anesthesia. Eight patients had delayed reduction with silo and ten patients had primary closure. Although the type of delivery had an effect on morbidity but not mortality, gestational age, birth weight, and the operative procedure performed had no effect on morbidity or mortality. Although most objects pass through the gastrointestinal tract with no untoward effect; long, sharppointed, or slender objects can perforate the gut. Migration of an object to the liver is extremely rare and very few cases have been reported in the literature. The aim of this study is to draw attention to this subject once again by contributing a case report of a child with a hepatic sewing needle. A survey of the literature over the period from 1971 to 2006 revealed a total of five cases of childhood hepatic sewing needle together with our case. The practical lesson illustrated by this report is that the surgeon must carefully evaluate the liver when foreign body was not found in gastrointestinal system and also perforation site was found anywhere.
