It publishes a broad portfolio of scientific books covering case studies, theoretical and applied approaches as well as novel developments and techniques in the field. The scope is not limited to a certain spatial scale and can cover local and regional to continental and global facets. Books with strong regional focus should be well illustrated including significant maps and meaningful figures to be potentially used as field guides and standard references for the respective area. The series appeals to scientists and students in the field of geography as well as regional scientists, landscape planners, policy makers, and everyone interested in wide-ranging aspects of modern Physical Geography. Peer-reviewed research monographs, edited volumes, advance and undergraduate level textbooks, and conference proceedings covering the major topics in Physical Geography are included in the series. Submissions to the Book Series are also invited on the theme 'The Physical Geography of…', with a relevant subtitle of the author's/editor's choice. Please contact the Publisher for further information and to receive a Book Proposal Form.

In this research geotourism potentials of geomorphosites in Mahabad county were analyzed based on new techniques such as Comanescu method and field studies. Values resulted from each method were compared with each other, and the scientific, cultural, economic, management, and beauty values of the sites were analyzed by Comanescu method. Geotouristic valuation of each Geomorphosite is of paramount importance in tourism planning and investment respecting the geomorphotouristic potentials of the area. Among the examined landforms, Saholan water cave was found to have the highest score of 75.

Research paper thumbnail of Identification and evaluation of Pre-geosites of Zanjan province and its impact on sustainable tourism development

The general trend of the present study is first to identify the pre-geosites of the study area, then to evaluate the geosites of the study area using Zouros and Kubalikova methods. After evaluating the pre-geosites, the impact of these pre-geosites on the development of sustainable tourism in the region has been investigated. For this purpose, 200 questionnaires have been used. The results of the evaluations indicate that Katale Khor Cave and Aladaghlar colored mountains have the highest value in both methods. After evaluating the pre-geosites, the impact of them on the economic, social and environmental status of the region is discussed. Among the effects mentioned earlier, improving the quality and quantity of handicrafts, increasing social interaction and improving the status of passages were the highest

Natural Hazards, 2022

In this study, we show how climate change has affected urbanization along the tsunami-prone Makran coastline during the past 35 years. To address this issue, we have employed climate data, satellite altimeter radar, geomorphology and historical shoreline changes in order to shed light on the factors leading to a decline in access to freshwater resources and also rapid urbanization. We furthermore consider the interactions between environmental changes and human-induced coastal and catchment modifications in increasing socioeconomic vulnerabilities of littoral areas. The results of this study show that agricultural and freshwater management methods along the Chabahar coastal plain date back to at least 1808 CE, when wetter climate conditions characterized the area. Severe climate changes have been pronounced since 2000. Within this context, the majority of agricultural lands have been abandoned due to increasing drought intensity and duration. Decreasing cultivation and limited access to freshwater resources have led to extensive urbanization particularly for the two cities of Konarak and Chabahar. Enhanced soil erosion, increasing summer monsoon wind speed, sea-level rise and the growing number of strong storm events are some of the climate change-related hazards for high to very high socially vulnerable zones. In addition to environmental risks, poor urban planning has increased damage to coastal infrastructures such as ports and desalination plants. Furthermore, industrial and urban growth in the northwest of the Makran could further enhance socioeconomic damage by earthquakes and tsunamis.

Vegetation affects the movement of sands and traps sands that are transported by wind. Nebka is one of the most important accumulations landforms in desert area. The type and species of vegetation can affect on the characteristic of Nebka. This research attempted to identify echogeomorphology characteristic of Tamarix and Prosopis cineraria nebkas in the west of Lut Plain in southeastern of Iran. Lut is a desert area with many especial landforms such as Yardang, Barkhan, Star dunes and other desert landforms covering 175000 sq. kilometers area.

This has been conducted by a field survey using cartographic techniques. In the field, two barchan dunes have completely been surveyed by total station equipment. Using the sample points a novel method has been devised to measure the barchans parameters. The method is mainly based on geometric relations and Cartesian coordinate system. All the parameters of the dunes have been measured by both the common methods of previous studies and the new method of this study. By this research, some new parameters have also been added to the dune analysis studies. The method has proved to be more precise relative to the previous methods for measurements of barchans. These measurements make it possible to compare the dunes in different areas of the world and also for different periods of time. Many parameters of the dunes can also be examined more easily.
