The effect of qibla direction on the hierarchy of movement in mosque: A case study of mosques in Yazd, Iran

In the present study, based on the descriptive-analytical method and using the material flow pattern and the activity relationship chart, the pattern of the path of human movement from the entrance to the altar, as well as the degree of proximity of each space relative to other spaces in this movement path were investigated. After describing and analyzing the qibla axis through the structural study on 12 samples of the traditional mosques of Yazd owing to the attention given by the people of this region to religious discussion and their efforts to focus on the axis qibla direction- the hierarchy of human movement was investigated with reference to the mosque being placed in the axis of the qibla direction considering the geometry, arrangement of forms, and interior functions. Studies in this area indicate that the architects and builders of mosques have considered the preservation of the divine orientation or the qibla, the path of human movement from his early arrival to his placement in the direction of the qibla axis, and the preservation of geometry as the valuable principles.

To this end, a descriptive-analytic methodology was formulated in three stages based on the mutual relations between the independent variables of the structure's body and the dependent variables of mental concepts and activities. Initially, the pattern of people's movement from the entrance to the praying niche and the degree of proximity of the spaces were studied using the material flow patterns technique and the diagram for the relationship between activities. Then, the relationship between the ritual movements of the prayer and the mosque's architecture was analyzed. The magnitude of load in the human body caused by the movements in the prayer was measured using the OWAS technique. Finally, the spiritual moods and the meaningful concepts affected by light and color were analyzed based on the movement patterns of the prayers in the mosques. The r...

The main objective of this research is to identify the priorities of resilience criteria to investigate the validity of the urban resilience questionnaire. The four main social, economic, physical, environmental, and institutional resilience indicators were examined by 52 faculty members and experts in urban planning, crisis management, social sciences, urban management, and architecture as a sample population. Then, using exploratory factor analysis by statistical package for social science (SPSS) software, three hidden factors were identified for social and institutional resilience, while four hidden factors were identified for economic and physical–environmental resilience. Finally, after preparing a questionnaire for the region, to evaluate each hidden factor, the use of the method of the mean sum of distances from the optimal resilience limit has been proposed...
