"Despite the recent acknowledge and revalorization of the historical industrial architecture as d... more "Despite the recent acknowledge and revalorization of the historical industrial architecture as depositary of multiple cultural values to be tutored and preserved, it can be seen, in many Braziliancities, that important pieces and sets of this architectonical kind, located in privileged spots in the urban environment, are becoming less and less incorporated in the life of the cities. This is a phenomenon which, in addition to the issues concerning the memory, represents a great waste in
terms of physical, economical and social resources.
As artifacts which are covered by the broadening of the concept of “cultural heritage”, buildings and industrial sites have been studied and valorized for the recent decades by its group specificity. They create unique cultural landscapes that articulate memorial aspects and consolidate social spaces related to specific productive activities. Nevertheless, in practice, it is seen that whenever actions are
taken to restore or recuperate these sites, these interventions are almost always directed to individual buildings. This article presents three academic studies which were developed in the “Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de Campinas” (UNICAMP).
They propose the rehabilitation of great historical manufacturing complexes in Sorocaba, Tatuí and Piracicaba- three important industrial cities in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.These projects join physical restoration guidelines with the industrial aspect of these manufacturing complexes - they contemplate questions concerning reuses which are compatible with the social composition of the population who live or use the regions where these complexes are located - this way, they seek the
best usages for the existing structures and their readaptation to the current needs of the cities.
Architectonical heritages must be the living city, which is an object of everybody’s appropriation and memory. Key words: Paulista industrial heritage. Architectural restoration Project.
