The 43 leaders of secondary education who took part in the research expressed their views and perceptions about the difficulties and limitations posed by the bureaucratic structure of the Greek education system and the positive elements of this particular way of organization. In addition, they describe the pedagogical directions they give to the rest of the staff in the context of the operation of the school units. The survey was conducted in the summer and fall of 2020, the time when schools were called to adapt to the Covid-19 health crisis. The research problem of this work was the investigation of the possibilities of application of participatory administration in the wider centralized education system in combination with the instructions for the support of st...

The theoretical framework analyzes the dimensions of human resource management by a leader teacher, as a communication channel, team empowerer, and creator of a climate of trust. The research was carried out using quantitative method, with a closed digital questionnaire which was completed by 693 primary school teachers from whole Greece. Initially, the analysis was carried out through descriptive statistics and then selected questions were analyzed by statistical inference test. The findings show a shift towards the model of a transformational leader, despite the country’s education system remaining highly centralized. In addition, the findings show a correlation between democratic and cooperative staff management, with the axes of inspirat...

This research is based on the assumption of social psychology which investigates the ways of changing values in social context, examining how the value system of society influences the behavior of individuals (Kakavoulis,1994∙ Georgas,1995∙Koliadis,1997). Values are associated with desirable goals that drive human behavior and form decision making (Schwartz,1992∙2012). Feather (2002)∙ Rohan (2000)∙ Schwartz&Bilsky, (1987∙1990) emphasize that values function as models that guide thinking and action, through which we evaluate others and ourselves (Lindeman & Verkasalo, 2005). Values are fundamental in education (Cawsey,2002) and those associated with teachers include commitment to children's well-being (Mimbs, 2000∙ Sachs,2000). Materials, themes and student preparation demonstrate teacher values (Gudmundsdottir,1990). 218 Greek teachers took part in a questionnaire with closed questions. Descriptive statistics and independent sample t-test analysis were used. Data collection was done anonymously. An information leaflet was given regarding the research, protection of personal data, and ability to leave at any time, requesting their active consent. The most important in the value system of teachers are peace, democracy, while less important are economy and competition. Actions such as rule reminders and free expression are implemented more often, whilst lesser, volunteering and rewarding actions. Socio-cultural factors influence values like competition, altruism, e.t.c and actions like volunteering, peace, environment, etc. The findings provide knowledge for designing training programs for teachers.

It consists of 4 main axes. The first part presents the pandemic chronicle to the educational community, the second analyses the challenges that the members of the educational community were called to face, the third analyses the pandemic as an opportunity to review the existing educational system, while the latter summarizes the main implications of the above. There are several reasons to review the Greek education system, most importantly the unequal provision of learning opportunities to students from low socio-economic backgrounds. The article comes to raise the question of whether the pandemic is an opportunity to review the educational system and provide equal learning opportunities for all. This article came to highlight the role of participants in the educational process and the challenges they faced with due to emer...

The survey was conducted in July 2020 using a closed questionnaire. The research involved 122 primary school teachers (kindergarten teachers, teachers, and expertise teachers) who were asked to choose from a five-point scale, or from multiple answers. The survey based on the assumption that the existence of a collective and democratic climate of school administration helps to encourage teachers to address issues of education in the capacity of citizen. The results of the survey lead us to confirm our initial thought, which was the springboard for conducting this research, that those teachers who work in an environment characterised with respect and collectivity, it makes sense to be them who embrace the principles of citizenship education and consider it import...

The survey was conducted in the spring of 2013, using a questionnaire with closed questions. In our research took part 218 teachers (kindergarten teachers-primary teachers) who were asked to indicate the degree of their agreement, the degree of significance of certain proposals as long as the degree of frequency in related activities with civic education. Based on the assumption that the theory differs from practice, while we were analyzing our research it was thought best to not just settle for the influence of sociocultural characteristics on the values of teachers, but to compare them opinions with their...

Early childhood education can play a key role in the development of a child's citizenship. However, factors such as the insufficient training of teachers in matters of citizenship education in combination with the unclear goals in the early childhood education curriculum make this task particularly difficult and make it hard for early childhood education teachers to decide to engage further, as shown by findings from a previous study. The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of citizenship on its theoretical basis and specifically to highlight how citizenship education is outlined in early childhood. We examine practices for the age group of 4-6 years, where in the Greek educational system they attend kindergarten. We developed a series of activities that can take place in a kindergarten for citizenship education, on issues regarding decision making, behavioral evaluation, rules, dispute resolution, management of material and natural resources, democracy, tender, dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and contact with different cultures. These activities can serve as a guide for early childhood education teachers, who feel insecure to introduce the concepts of citizenship in the early childhood education area, and we hope that they will be a trigger to realize that in a playful and easy way they can approach these demanding concepts.
