The sheet belongs to the offerings found in the sanctuary of Altino (Venice) – loc. Fornace, devoted to the god Altino –. From the 6th century BC to the Roman age, it was a meeting point between Venetics, Greeks and Etruscans who landed here from the Adriatic sea routes, and Celts from the important communication routes with the Venetic and transalpine hinterland. Among the numerous sheets depicting warriors with helm, spears and round hoplitic shield, this sheet differs in the rarity of the oval shield belonging to a clear Celtic type, datable to the fifth century BC. The sheet is thus one of the oldest attestations of the Celtic armament in Veneto.

We attempted the reconstruction of buried geomorphic and archaeological surfaces in the 1.55-km 2 wide, 7-m thick, pluristratified urban site of Padua, through the spatial interpolation of 117 elevation points relative to unique archaeological features. Key data were the elevation above sea level of ancient living floors, such as the pre-settlement alluvial plain, roads, floors, hearths, since the Bronze Age to the Imperial Roman Age. The elevation of the present ground was provided by a LiDAR digital elevation model. Spline interpolation produced general-trend surfaces of the buried alluvial plain, Iron Age (13 th -10 th and 6 th century BC), and Roman (1 st BC and 1 st –2 nd centuries AD) levels. Validation of the later Roman surface indicates a decimeter accuracy of interpolation. GIS overlay operations result...
