According to the Structured Professional Judgment (SPJ) approach, the risk of violence is dynamic, contextual and changeable. However, research suggests that it is necessary to include protective factors in the assessment, prediction, monitoring and management of risk that indirectly or directly reduce the likelihood of criminal aggression in minors. The aim of this article is to present the concept of protective factors in a context of the risk assessment approach, and to attempt to rationalise the need to study the role of protective factors in assessing the risk of violence from the perspective of contemporary psychopathology. Fields of application of the SPJ approach in forensic and clinical diagnosis have been characterised by tools designed for measuring protective factors in juveniles such as SAVRY or SAPROF-YV.

The authors have responded by producing a study that attempts to advance the understanding of affective deficits in female psychopathy. Its aim is to examine the relationship between psychopathy and empathy in a group of incarcerated women. A multifaceted construct of empathy consisting of two components – emotional and cognitive – was applied in the study. The sample was composed of fifty-two female offenders aged from twenty to fifty-four from prisons in Kraków (Nowa Huta) and Kielce. The research tools deployed were Hare’s Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). The statistical analysis that was conducted confirmed the existence of a statistically significant negative relationship between psychopathy and empathy. It was found that psychopathic personality was related to the emotion...

The purpose of this research was to investigate the problem of violent crime conditions in male and female offenders. Authors examined the role of psychopathic traits, empathy, psychological gender, aggressiveness and the risk of violence level in determining violent criminality. Two structural models were assessed. 100 incarcerated adult males and 100 incarcerated adult females were examined. To state the level of psychopathy the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R; Hare, 2003) was used. To analyse the likelihood of an aggressive behaviour manifestation the Historical/Clinical/Risk Management Scale (HCR-20; Webster, Douglas, Eaves, Hart, 1997) was applied (with special supplement − FAM – for females). Aggressive tendencies were measured using the self-reporting Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (Buss, Perry, 1992). Psychological gender of t...

It is indicated that workaholism is associated with forcing oneself to work, lack of control over work-related habits, which may lead to neglecting main life activities (Łuczak, 2009; Rowicka, 2015). Due to increasing tension, anxiety, depressed mood and diffi culties in interpersonal relationships, people who are excessively involved in their work are at an increased risk of becoming addicted to psychoactive substances. Thanks to stimulants, they are able to reduce increasing psychological discomfort in a short time, but in the long run –they fall victim to addiction. Attention should be especially paid to the group of people who are described as highly functioning alcoholics, i.e. people who are generally perceived as resourceful, independent and organised. The aim of the study was to check whether the relationship between alcohol abu...

The analysis of the recent international reports in the literature on psychopathy has proved irrefutably that there is a necessity for the in-depth studies on psychopathy among the female sentenced offenders. Although there is no disagreement among the researchers on the 'male' form of this disorder, there are still very few gender comparative studies. The aim of this project was to investigate the relationship between the intensity of particular psychopathic features and aggressive tendencies in a group of female and male inmates.
