Screening is necessary for early diagnosis and treatment, which reduces morbidity and mortality across all three illnesses. We evaluated testing uptake for HIV, viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis in Kisumu, Kenya. Methods Cross-sectional data from adults aged 18–35 years who enrolled in a prospective HIV incidence cohort study from February 2017 to May 2018 were analyzed. A questionnaire was administered to each participant at screening for study eligibility to collect behavioral characteristics and to assess prior testing practices. Among participants without a history of previously-diagnosed HIV, multivariable robust Poisson regression was used to estimate prevalence ratios (PRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for factors potentially associated with HIV testing in the 12 months prior to enrollment. A hierarchical model was used to test for differential access to testing due to spatial location. Result...

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to consider the clinical and epidemiological implications of blood pressure measured in seated versus supine position, and to investigate the impact of age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and diabetes on these differences. This study included 1298 individuals (mean age 58.6 ± 11.8 years) from the Vara-Skövde cohort at the 10 years' follow-up visit in 2014. Physical examination included blood pressure measurements in seated and supine position. Self-reported information on diabetes status, hypertension, ongoing medication, leisure time physical activity, and smoking habits were obtained. Linear regression models accounted for differences in age, sex, BMI, and known diabetes. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly higher in the seated position [1.2 mm Hg, P < .001, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.79-1.54 and 4.2 mm Hg, P < .001, 95% CI 4.08-4.71, respectively]. The prevalence of high blood pressure in seated position was higher (19.9%) than in supine position (13.5%). Linear regression analysis showed that age (b = À0.215, P < .001) and diabetes (b = À0.072, P = .012) were associated with smaller differences in postural diastolic blood pressure and BMI (b = 0.124, P < .001) with greater difference. This study showed substantial postural differences in blood pressures measured in office. Measuring blood pressure in the supine position shows lower blood pressure readings when compared with the seated position. Clinicians should be aware of how age, BMI, and diabetes influence these differences. Abbreviations: DDBP = positional difference in diastolic blood pressure (DDBP = DBP seated-DBP supine), DSBP = positional difference in systolic blood pressure (DSBP = SBP seated-SBP supine), BMI = body mass index, DBP = diastolic blood pressure, ESC = European Society of Cardiology, ESH = European Society of Hypertension, OGTT = oral glucose tolerance test, SBP = systolic blood pressure, WHO = World Health Organization.

Any business that is not aware of its environment is bound to run into some crises that will definitely arise from the increasing complexity of the environment in which such business operates. Environmental scanning is the tool used in analysis of the environment and its effectiveness depends on some underlying factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate some of these factors affecting the environmental scanning of organization using Kenya Breweries Limited as a case study. The research problem was studied through the use of a case study research design. The target population of this study was the staff working at Kenya Breweries Limited. A sample of staff drawn from the population of 250 management staff comprising of the top, middle and low level management ranks. Using stratified sampling techniques a sample of 75 respondents was drawn. Primary data was collected through the use of questionnaires. A p...

Successful implementation is critical to state corporations as well as to other non-state actors. Implementation of projects in the public sector has been observed to be plagued with a wide range of problems and issues. Most corporates projects in Kenya have frequent and lengthy delays in project implementation. An example we found out is the KEFRI project Aloe lotion production.

This service is normally provided by the human resources in that organization. Corporate leaders of business organizations provide employee welfare services among them employee counselling services as a way of either motivating their employees to improve their productivity. However, little information is known about such as employee counselling services by all the stakeholders in NGOs. The primary purpose of this study was to focus on the relationship between employee welfare services and performance in non-governmental organizations in Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were: to assess the influence of employee counselling services on performance in NGOs in Kenya. The study is likely to aid the NGOs management boards, policy makers in government, human resource professionals and scholars and researchers in policy formulation for employee counseling services in order to improve performance in NGOs in Kenya. The study employed both correlational and descriptive survey designs. The fundamental model shaping this study was the linear regression model. The target population of the study was 14,283 employees in NGOs in Kenya. The sample size of the study was 372 respondents comprising junior management at 242, middle management at 97 and top management staffs at 33 chosen by simple random stratified sampling technique. Primary data was collected using both questionnaires and interviews. The data was analysed using the Statistical packages for social sciences (version 23). The main findings of the study indicated that employee welfare practices such as employee counselling services influenced performance of NGOs in Kenya. The study also found that 81% of performance in NGOs in Kenya was explained by the independent variables of the study such as employee economic support, recreational facilities at work place, employee counselling services and social support. Finally, the study also contributed to theory and knowledge for humanity. However, the study found that the most significant factor influencing performance of the NGOs in Kenya was employee social support with P-Value at 0.439, followed by employee economic support with P-Value at 0.372, recreation facilities with P-Value at 0.358 and lastly employee counselling with P-Value at 0.208. The study had limitations, that is, the respondents were not consistent and the sample size of the study was limited in scope. The study concluded that employee welfare practices such as employee counselling services had a significant positive relationship with performance in NGOs in Kenya and recommended that a policy on other employee welfare practices such as grievance cells and suggestion schemes be considered and adopted by NGO management boards. This is likely to motivate employees to work better and with determination to enhance performance in NGOs in Kenya.

The competitiveness concept has been defined in multitude of ways; in the individual firm's context, industries context and nation's context. The aim of the study is to identify the relationship between total quality management practices and contractors competitiveness. In order to achieve the study objective in the present study, a survey conducted. Questionnaires distributed to the contractor's managers in Saudi Arabia. The findings of the study turn out to be true; the study will contribute to both theory and practice. Through the present study, the researcher expects the findings to shed light on the research conducted hierarchical regression to analyse the relationships amongst different total quality management practices and practices of competitiveness.

Despite the turbulent economic situation leading to declining financial support by the government and massive budgetary cuts, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and other Public Universities should explore ways and means to re-ignite and secure their employees' loyalty and commitment to compete on equal footing with its rivals for sustained competitive advantage. The purpose of the study was to establish the effect of training needs assessment on employee commitment among employees of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. This study adopted a descriptive survey case study design employing both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The target population was 1731 staff members of JKUAT and a sample size of 10%. Stratified random sampling technique was used to sample the 173 respondents. A questionnaire was used to gather data from respondents and the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The findings from the inferential statistics indicated that training had an effect on employee commitment. The study established that training needs assessment in JKUAT and other Public Universities was not being done effectively and thus led to lack of commitment by employees to their jobs. The study concluded
