Research paper thumbnail of Accurate Breakthrough Curve Prediction of Hexavalent Chromium Biosorption Using a Deactivation Based Reaction Model

A modeling approach for prediction of the breakthrough curve in adsorption of hexavalent chromium... more A modeling approach for prediction of the breakthrough curve in adsorption of hexavalent chromium on sawdust in a fixed bed column is presented. The model was introduced by Zhang and Cheng and benefit from geometrical dimensions of the bed that is useful if an industrial scale up will be needed. Validation with experimental data and a comparison with well-known Thomas model, the pore diffusion and the solid diffusion models were performed. The results showed that Zhang and Cheng model has better output than Thomas and the pore diffusion models and almost near to the solid diffusion model.

Its vapor pressure, determined as Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP), must be in a range that light components don't evolve as a separate gas phase in transport pipelines or storage tanks. The optimum value is usually 10 psia in summer and 12 psia in winter. In the present study, we investigated condensate stabilization using two methods of multistage flash vaporization and distillation (fractionation) within two case studies. The results show that depending on the properties of feed to be stabilized, one or both of the two methods could be practical. Generally, the fractionation method is preferred over the multistage flashing.

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2019

For this purpose, surface modification of MWCNT was utilized to prepare uniform and stable nanofluids. Therefore, chemical surface modification and polymer wrapping treatment were conducted on the nanotubes, and then, the thermal conductivity of synthesized nanofluids was measured to investigate the effect of these Nano complexes on the thermal resistance of CLPHP system. In addition, the effect of other CLPHP parameters such as filling ratio, operating pressure and different working fluids were investigated. The results revealed that these nanofluids could enhance the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) of the system by up to 27% when they used as the working fluid in a CLPHP. Furthermore, these experiments indicated that the CLPHP increased the HTC by up to 30% compared to a copper fin that is known for its higher HTC among the metals.

Research paper thumbnail of Extension of gas adsorption models to liquid diesel fuel desulfurization: Validity and predictability

Petroleum Science and Technology, 2016

Researchers have paid less attention to models that describe and predict liquid phase adsorption. Hence, the ability of five widely used models which were originally developed for gas adsorption (Zhang–Cheng, Clark, Thomas, Bohart–Adams, and Wolborska) to simulate and predict the fuel desulfurization breakthrough curve is investigated. Afterward, the best model is chosen to predict the breakthrough curve in different flow rates and bed depths. An industrial scale-up with a real refinery flow rate using the appropriate model has been done. The results are in good agreement with the reported ones.
