Transverse discrepancies can manifest as dental, skeletal or functional discrepancies. Maxillary expansion is one of the most common treatment modality for arch length augmentation, posterior crossbite correction and removing cross arch interferences. Skeletal correction is done by orthopedic expansion or surgical expansion. Rapid Maxillary Expansion and Head Gears, produces orthopedic correction. Severe skeletal discrepancies require surgical correction of underlying skeletal deformity by using SARPE (Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) or surgical expansion of palatal shelves by midline osteotomies. Dental correction can be done using Rapid expansion in growing children and by slow expansion using Quad Helix, W Arches, Coffin Spring and certain modification of Jack screw appliances in other cases. In patients treated with fixed mechanotherapy expansions can not only be achieved by Arch wires, auxillary Jockey arches, cross elastics etc. but also by slow or rapid expansion devices that can be amalgamated with fixed orthodontic treatment. In this article, the use of slow maxillary expansion appliances in treatment of the three patients with transverse maxillary deficiency and undergoing fixed mechanotherapy will be discussed.

A reapplication every 6 months, if needed, is recommended. 5 The aim of the study is evaluation of the relationship between three different types of sealants and their properties of viscosity, resin tag length, and microleakage. Materials a n d Methods The in vitro study was conducted on 60 permanent premolars which were extracted either due to orthodontic reason or for periodontal reason. The extracted teeth were free from any caries infection.

Dental caries is one of most common oral manifestation because of lack of knowledge and improper techniques. The first visit should be planned at early ages only so that proper guidance and knowledge should be imparted to the parent to prevent oral diseases. The first visit should include oral screening, oral habit monitoring, Brushing technique demonstration and fluoride application if needed. There should be more involvement to strengthen the role of pediatricians’ in children’s oral health requires an understanding of their current knowledge and practice. In this scoping review, we aimed to comprehensively map what is known about the knowledge and practice of parents regarding children’s oral health.

The oral cavity is a complex biological ecosystem with very large number of microorganisms living in a biofilm. Antibiotics are commonly used in dentistry for prophylactic as well as for therapeutic purposes. Most often antibiotics are used in unwarranted situations, which may give rise to resistant bacterial strains. Good knowledge about the indications of antibiotics is the need of the hour in prescribing antibiotics for dental conditions. The purpose of this review article is to provide information on proper use of antibiotics in pediatric dental practice for control of oral infection, and in the management of children with systemic conditions which may alter disease resistance and healing response

Angle stated that "the problem involved in retention are greater than the difficulties being encountered in the treatment, and tests the utmost skill of the operator. The various retention appliances available include Removable retainers and bonded retainers. Removable retainers have their own advantages and disadvantages, but they need patient’s compliance to wear them.Fixed retainers consist of a length of orthodontic wire that is bonded on the lingual aspect of tooth .The major advantages of bonded retainers includes invisibility, no patient compliance required and long term retention. Bonding of a lingual retainer is a challenging and technique sensitive procedure because it requires long working time and has a risk of contamination from saliva and moisture, leading to bond failure as it is difficult to adaptation of the retainer wire and further stabilization of contoured retainer wire in the oral ca...
