Utilizing synthetic and biological dressings improves healing and reduces burn wound complications. The present study aimed to compare the outcomes of using a human amniotic membrane (HAM) and conventional silver sulfadiazine (SSDZ) ointment as the dressings, in the management of the second-degree burn wound,2018, Zanjan, Iran. Methods Fifty patients participated in this clinical trial and were divided into two groups by simple randomization. The target group (n = 25) was treated with HAM, and the control group (n = 25) was treated with the SSDZ ointment. The researcher-designed checklist was used to determine the clinical performance in the follow-up assessments on days 7, 14, and 30. Results No significant difference was found in terms of gender, age, and the percentage of the burn wound (P > 0.05). Wound epithelialization (days 7,14, and 30),...

There are controversies with regard to the impact of blood iron on myocardial infarction. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to investigate the relationship between iron reserves and the intensity of coronary artery stenos is among angiographic candidates in Zanjan, Iran. This was a cross sectional study. Samples were consisted of patients who were hospitalized for diagnostic coronary angiography in hospitals in an urban area of Iran. A convenient sampling method was used to recruit samples via interviews and laboratory examinations for FBS, iron, TIBC, ferritin, creatinine serum, CBC, cholesterol, HDL and LDL. The samples were divided into control and intervention groups. After coronary angiography, the intervention group was evaluated by four different methods including the extent score, stenos is score, vessel score and Duke CAN Index. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 310 patients hospitalized in critical care units, using a non-probability sampling method. Data were collected using depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS-21) one month after discharge from the hospital. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results 181 males and 129 females with a mean age (SD) of 55.11(1.62) years were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress were 46.5, 53.6 and 57.8% respectively, and the depression, anxiety and stress mean (SD) scores were 16.15(1.40), 18.57(1.46), 19.69(1.48), respectively. Therefore, it is important to predict the future consequences of the disease in patients who have recovered. Objectives: We sought to determine the relationship between troponin-I level and 6-month clinical consequences (i.e., re-infarction, death, re-angiography and coronary artery bypass grafting) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was performed among 60 patients with ACS admitted to Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital in Zanjan, Iran. The participants were chosen using the convenience sampling method. Troponin-I level in these patients was initially evaluated. Afterwards, they were followed up for six months in terms of clinical consequences. A checklist was prepared to collect the required data. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was conducted to determine the predictive power of high-sensitivity troponin I for the mentioned cons...

The aim of this study is the effects of this combination therapy on clinical outcome and sepsis biomarkers in patients with septic shock. Materials and Methods: Fifty-eight consecutive patients suffering septic shock were randomly assigned into two groups receiving the combination therapy of hydrocortisone (50 mg/6 h, intravenously), Vitamin C (1.5 g/6 h in 100 ml normal saline or DW5%, intravenously), and thiamine (200 mg/12 h in 50 ml normal saline or DW5%, intravenously) or placebo for up to 4 days. Results: The decline in procalcitonin, lactate, and leukocyte count 72 h after the initiation of treatment was significantly greater in the intervention as compared to the control group. The intervention group has a significantly lower sequential organ failure assessment score 72 h after treatment (P < 0.001). The m...

The seven-step Colaizzi procedure was applied for data analysis. The major themes were beliefs, reciprocal reaction, relational disturbance, different behavior and supportive umbrella. The results demonstrated that if one member of the family suffered from such a psychiatric disease, it would have numerous negative effects on the family's conditions and thus would reduce all aspects of the quality of life of the rest of the family.

Background: Suicide is an intentional death which is mainly committed consciously or half-conscio... more Background: Suicide is an intentional death which is mainly committed consciously or half-consciously by one's own intention with the purpose of killing oneself and is one of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity among individuals and many people lose their life annually because of it. Therefore, this study aims to determine the epidemiology of suicide among patients referring to Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital in Zanjan between 2016 and 2018. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The population of the study included all suicidal patients referred to Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital in Zanjan between 2016 and 2018. Data were collected by referring to the library and the files. The collected data were analyzed using frequency and descriptive statistics and spss software version 20. Results: The results of this study showed that 253 people have committed suicide, 151 males (59.7%) and 102 females (40.3%) with an average age of 25.66 ± 9.161, of whom 206 (81.4%) were urban and 47 (18.6%) were rural. In terms of marital status, 140 (53.4%) were single and 113 (42.3%) were married. The highest number of reported attempted suicide was 113 (44.7%), between 7 p.m. and 5a.m. Committing self-harm with 119(47.00%) cases were the most common type of suicide and then were taking toxic pills and substances and hanging with 81 (32.01%) and 20 (7.9%) cases respectively. In general, in the second six months of the year, the suicide rate was 55.3%, more than the first six months. Of the total number of suicides, 236 (93.3%) were treated and 17 (6.7%) led to death. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that suicide attempts were higher in men who were living in urban areas. Therefore, recognizing the causes of suicide and taking preventive measures by authorities and members of the health team can significantly reduce the incidence of suicide.

Results: In general, 66.2% of the participants were male and the mean age was 60.46 ± 12.78 years. We found that 21.2% of the participants experienced one of the four clinical consequences in the follow-up period of 6 months. The sub-curved surface was calculated to be 0.705 for the prediction of consequences. The cutoff point for the prediction of consequences was 32.5; the negative predictive value for the cutoff point was 32.5, which was equal to 89.8%. Conclusion: Troponin-I has an acceptable predictive power to identify 6-month consequences of ACS. Moreover, considering the negative predictive value of troponin-I, it is recommended to use this biomarker in patients with ACS. In addition, healthcare providers should pay more attention to the follow-up of patients after discharge and design preventive programs.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the experiences of family members of patients with brain death, who did not donate their patients' organs. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted on nine non-donor family members of patients with brain death, selected using the purposeful sampling method. To collect data, deep unstructured interviews were held to reach data saturation. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed utilizing the phenomenology approach based on the seven-step Colaizzi's method. Results: The participants of this study explained their situation as 'an overwhelming situation in families due to patients' brain death'. Also, the data analysis led to the development of four main themes as follow: 'overwhelming situation', 'perplexity factors', 'the sling loops of defect in consent for organ donation', and 'compatibility'. Conclusions: The overwhelming effects of the patients' brain death on the family members and the crisis rising from it influenced the decisions made by family members for organ donation. Therefore, some measures should be taken to cultivate appropriate adaptive behaviors among family members for relieving their sorrow and pain. Moreover, healthcare team members should be informed of the crisis raised from patient's brain death and help family members make logical decisions with regards to organ donation.
