Diclofenac sodium loaded matrix granules were prepared with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, ethyl ... more Diclofenac sodium loaded matrix granules were prepared with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, ethyl cellulose, Eudragit RL 1OO and RS 100 polymers. The rate and extent of drug release were found to be a function of the physicochemical properties of the rate-retarding polymers. The study reveals that, drug release from HPMC granules is higher than that of ethyl cellulose. Eudragit RS 100 and RL 100 alone could not modulate the drug release in a consistent fashion. A burst release was observed with the Eudragit RL 100 and RS 100 matrix granules. Incorporalion of conventional polymers like HPMC and PEG into these granules affected the drug release pattern. Different mathematical models were adopted to explore into the release kinetics of drug from the granules.
