To that end, we first synthesize the various insights on ambidexterity's conceptualization in extant research. We then develop a parsimonious, yet coherent typology that delineates four archetypes of ambidexterity using two primary dimensions underlying previous conceptualizations of this construct. To help focus and align extant research, we next map these types onto the most salient theories, antecedents, and outcomes that are uniquely germane to each. Finally, we offer several recommendations and promising avenues for future inquiries that follow from our typology and associated discussion.

Generalized Additive Model outperform traditional linear estimation of air pollution. Resident population pressure is higher than tourist population pressure in determining PM 10. a b s t r a c t Tourism has begun to be acknowledged as being a significant contributor to the increase in environmental externalities, especially to climate ch ange. Various studies have started to estimate and compute the role of the different tourism sectors that contribute to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These estimations have been made from a sectorial perspective, assessing the contribution of air transport, accommodation or other tourism-related economic sectors. In contrast with this and in order to evaluate the impact of tourism on air pollution from a joint perspective, this paper explores the relationship between daily concentrations of PM 10 and the number of tourists in Mallorca (Spain). The results show that the daily stock of tourists is not only a significant predictor of air pollution concentration levels but also a variable whose inclusion improves the standard specification of urban air pollution models that have the common feature of using weather conditions as main explanatory variables. Furthermore, by using a Generalized Additive Model in its semi-parametric form it is shown that a 1% increase in tourist numbers can be related to up to a 0.45% increase in PM 10 concentration levels.

Today, the environmental dimension of sustainable development theory especially focuses on Preservation of natural resources. In recent decades, protecting the environment, improving the utilization rate of natural resources and achieving the sustainable development of humans and nature have attracted enormous attention among people throughout the world. Tourism as an environmental-based activity should consider protection and conversation of natural resources in tourist areas. There are concepts such as "green" or "alternative" tourism philosophy which focuses on environmental sustainability of tourist destinations. Rural tourism as one of the options for implementing sustainable development contributes to achieving this goal. Environmental sustainability in rural areas requires the adoption of an integrated approach for tourism management in rural areas. In this approach, responsible tourists, green tourism activities, respect for the values of the local community and the development of green rural infrastructure are emphasized. Furthermore, rural communities have experienced several challenges, including migration, low commodity prices, and general economic decline. Therefore, its development is an appropriate solution for rural economy diversification (or regeneration) and exploitation of the natural resource.
