Since then, the HIV epidemic in Iran has undergone significant changes. This study investigated the time variations of the epidemiology of reported HIV/AIDS -infections during 2011-2017 in Yazd, Iran. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was carried out using the data recorded in health centers of Yazd province from 2011 to 2017. The data were collected from the records of 98 patients using a researcher-made checklist. The rate of newly reported HIV/AIDS by gender per 100,000 people was calculated. Results: Out of 98 reported HIV/AIDS cases, 56.1% were men, and 43.9% were women; 55.1% of cases were infected through sexual contact, 30.6% through the infected needle while injecting for drug use, 1.6% through mother-to-fetus transmission, 1.3% through tattooing, and 5.1% through the unspecified mechanism. During these years the rate of newly report...

Materials and methods: The present analytical cross-sectional study was performed using the data from Yazd Health Study (YaHS) with a sample size of 9293. All required data including anthropometric indices BMI, WC, WHR, and WHtR were extracted from the YAHS questionnaire. The ROC curve was employed to compare the predictive power of each anthropometric index in the risk of developing the type II diabetes. Results: WHtR in both genders had better predictive power for the risk of type II diabetes (AUC = 0.692 for males and AUC = 0.708 for females), and BMI showed a weaker predictive power (AUC = 0.603 for males and AUC = 0.632 for females), WC and WHR also revealed similar predictive power in the risk of type II diabetes. The cutoff point of BMI for predicting the risk of diabetes was almost identical in both genders (26.2 in males and 25.9 in females), the cutoff point of WC (91 cm), and WHtR (0.56) in males was lower than in the females (96 cm for WC and 0.605 for WHtR). The cutoff point of WHR in males (0.939) was higher than in females (0.892). Conclusion: The WHtR showed the best predictor of diabetes risk compared to other indices, and the BMI was the weakest predictor of the risk for diabetes.

Quality of life is an important and measurable outcome in the field of medicine; The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relation between smoking and quality of life in the city of Yazd. Methods: This analytical-cross-sectional study was performed using Yazd Health Study (YaHS) data with a sample size of 8725 people. SF8 (Short Form 8 Health Survey) questionnaire was used for evaluating the quality of life. Data were analyzed through Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney and Logistic regression tests. Results: There was a significant difference between the quality of life in smokers and non-smokers and the quality of life was significantly lower among smokers compared to non-smokers (p < 0.001). This difference was observed in the dimensions of general health (p < 0.001), cheerfulness (p < 0.001) and social performance (p = 0.014) as well as in two general dimensions of physical (p = 0.001) and mental (p < 0.001) quality of life. In the present study, smoking cigarette (OR=1.54, CI 95%: 1.31-1.81) and hookah (OR=1.32, CI 95%: 1.11-1.56) were considered as risk factors for low quality of life. Analyzing the statistical interaction between smoking cigarette and quality of life-related demographic characteristics has shown that young smokers compared to old smokers (OR=3.55, CI 95%: 1.56-8.08) and single smokers compared to married smokers (OR=2.37, CI 95%: 1.44-3.89) had a higher chance of being in the low quality of life classification. In addition, employed smoker compared to unemployed smoker had a lower chance of low quaility of life (OR=0.711, CI95%: 0.513-0.983). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that there are significant differences in quality of life according to the smoking status.

However, conflicting results have been reported. This research aimed to evaluate the relationship between symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress with hypertension in a large population. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional analytic study was conducted using the results of in Yazd Health Study, Iran (N=9340). In addition, DASS-21 questionnaire was asked from the participants to assess depression, anxiety, and stress. Moreover, logistic regression was used to evaluate the relationship between symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress with hypertension. Results: A negative association was observed between systolic and diastolic blood pressure and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, which were independent from other variables. Regarding systolic blood pressure, a significant and reverse relationship was f...

The present cross-sectional study was conducted using the Yazd health study (YaHS) data which was collected in 2013-14. Statistical population of this study consisted of all 9340 individuals aged between 20 and 69 in Yazd City. Logistic regression was used to determine behavioral factors and family history of diabetes and their interaction in the risk of diabetes. In the present study, age, family history of type 2 diabetes, waist-to-hip ratio, BMI, educational level, physical activity and smoking were considered as the risk factors for type 2 diabetes. There was a significant interaction(negative interaction) between family history of diabetes and other risk factors only for BMI, so that the risk of developing type-2 diabetes was lower in the presence of two risk factors- family history of diabetes and BMI- than the risk o...
