ability to maintain their awareness of the work situation, understand the information it holds,
and predict the development of the situations. In this study, we examined the role of work stress
and sleepiness in predicting work situation awareness among workers.
Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study, conducted in 2014. The sample
consisted of 180 employees in the National Petrochemical Company. They were selected
according to the stratified random sampling method and responded to questionnaires about
demographic characteristics, work situation awareness of Sneddon, Mearns, and Flin (2013),
work stress of Cohen et al. (1983), and Epworth sleepiness scale. The data were analyzed by
correlation coefficient and stepwise regression by using the SPSS 15.
Results: The results showed that there were internal correlation among work stress, sleepiness,
and work situation awareness. Also, the results of stepwise regression analysis revealed that
work stress and sleepiness significantly predicted, respectively, almost 23% and 26% of
variances of work situation awareness among workers.
Conclusion: According to the findings of the present study, work stress and sleepiness can
predict work situation awareness. Therefore, considering these variables can be important in
promoting the awareness of work situation among workers.

Therefore, it is important to identify factors affecting situational awareness. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of fatigue and cognitive failures in predicting work situation awareness among employees. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study with a descriptive-correlational design. The sample consisted of 154 employees of the Tehran Pars Khodro Company in 2015, who was selected by stratified random sampling method and responded to questionnaires of fatigue from Chalder et al. (1993), cognitive failures from Broadbent et al. (1982) and work situation awareness of Sneddon et al. (2006). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. Results: The results showed that there were significant relationships between fatigue, cognitive failures and work situation awareness (P > 0.01). Also, fatigue and cognitive failures predicted almost %14 and %25 of the variance of work situation awareness among employees, respectively (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The reduction of employees' cognitive and emotional capacity could reduce their awareness of work situation.

The present study examined the degree of perceived organizational support for safety related to injuries reporting rate and its dimensions among workers' Isfahan Steel Company. Materials and Methods: A self-administered anonymous was distributed to 189 workers. The survey included demographic factors, injuries reporting rate and its components (physical symptoms, psychological symptoms and accidents) and perceived organizational support for safety. The data were analyzed using Multivariate and correlation techniques. Results: The results showed that: (1) there were significant correlations between perceived organizational support with injuries reporting rate and its' dimensions namely physical and psychological symptoms (P < 0.050); (2) There was not a significant relationship between perceived organizational support and accidents (P > 0.050); (3) Multivariate analysis indicated that perceived organizational support significantly predicted respectively about 14, 13 and 10 percent of the variance of variables of injuries reporting rate, physical symptoms and psychological symptoms (P < 0.050). Conclusion: Improving employees' perception of support can be important to prevent the development of job injuries and to promote employees' safety and well-being.

Improving situation awareness may help to prevent occupational accidents. Determination of factors influencing the situation awareness will help to plan and implement the measures for improving working conditions and making a safer workplace. In this study, was examined the role of work overload and sleepiness in predicting work situation awareness among workers. It was a cross-sectional study. The sample consisting of 180 employees at a petrochemical industry was selected according to the random stratified sampling method. They were asked to respond to questionnaires including work situation awareness of Sneddon, Mearns & Flin, work overload of Beehr, Walsh & Taber, and Epworth sleepiness scale. The results showed that there was an internal correlation among work overload, sleepiness, and work situation awareness. Also, the results of stepwise regression analysis revealed that work overload and sleepiness significantly predicted, respectively, almost 10% and 24% of variances of work situation awareness among the workers. Thus, for improving workplace safety, interventional measures can focus on enhancing situation awareness via workload and sleepiness reduction.

This study examined the relationship of alexithymia with empathy and emotional intelligence. A sample of 350 university students (175 males, 168 females, 7 unknown) was included in this study. All participants completed the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20; Bagby et al., 1994), the Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS; Schutte et al., 1998); and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI; Davis, 1983). The results showed that alexithymia had significant negative correlation with empathy and emotional intelligence. These findings showed evidence alexithymia and emotional intelligence are independent; and these structures overlap and negatively related. The meaning and limitation of this study and the suggestion for the further study are discussed.
