Anti-piroplasm drugs now on the market have demonstrated host toxicity and parasite resistance. As a result, developing more effective and safer anti-piroplasm drugs becomes an urgent issue. This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of Capsicum annuum methanolic extract (CA) against the growth of Babesia bovis, Babesia divergens, Babesia caballi, and Theileria equi in vitro and against B. microti in mice. Materials and Methods: Fluorescence-based SYBR Green I assay was used to evaluate CA's inhibitory effect in vitro and in vivo when used either as a monotherapy or combined with diminazene aceturate (DA). The hematological parameters (HCT, hemoglobin, and red blood cells counts) were determined in the blood of mice every 96 h using Celltac α MEK-6450 electronic hematology analyzer. Results: The in vitro...

This study was performed from October 2017 to September 2018 in 5 centers geographically located in and around Dakahlia governorate, Egypt. Faecal samples were examined using modified wisconsin technique. Examination of 455 faecal samples from sheep and goats revealed an overall incidence of 28.5% (130 out of 455). Sheep is found more affected by trichostrongyles (33.23%) than goats (14.78%). The highest infection rate of trichostrongyle eggs was recorded in El Mahella-Elkubra (92.5% and 27.8% in sheep and goats, respectively) while, the lowest infection rate was detected in Biyala city (10% and 0% in sheep and goats, respectively). Females are found more infected than males and young ages are found more infected than older ones in both examined sheep and goats. Regarding the seasonal fluctuation; the infection rate in sheep reached at its maximum level during Winter (57.1%) while in goats was during Summer (18.7%).

Herein, we examined 540 sheep of different ages and sexes slaughtered at 3 Egyptian Provinces (Dakahlia, Damietta and Cairo), for detection of Sarcocystis infecion. Esophageal muscle specimens were collected from slaughtered sheep. Samples were examined using both visual inspection and muscle compression technique. Fast 5 minutes 10% Geimsa solution immersion of the fresh samples was perfect for better observation of the microscopic sarcocysts. Formalinpreserved positive samples were subjected to histopathological examination. Overall, 95.37% of the examined sheep were harboring sarcocysts. Two types of sarcocysts were revealed, macroscopic (1% of older sheep) and microscopic (84.43% in smaller and 95.37% in older sheep). The infection was proportionally increased with age, while females were had a higher prevalence than males. Incidences equal to or over than 90% were reported allover the year seasons. Morphologically, macroscopic cysts were ranged from 0.8-1 cm in length with thin and smooth walls, while the microscopic ones were ranged from 600-700 µm in length with thick cyst wall either striated or smooth. Detailed morphological features were given. This report illustrates the wide dispersal of the infective stages of Sarcocystis species (sporocysts) in the environment, and could be beneficial for further molecular studies.
