Aim: The current study aimed to assess the effect of MBI on recent-onset psychosis for patients with schizophrenia. Methods: A randomized control trial research design recruited 69 patients with schizophrenia and randomly assigned them to a MBI group (35 patients) who received seven 90-minutes weekly group sessions and to a treatment-as-usual (TAU) group (34 patients). After informed consent, all patients were assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), the Recovery Assessment Scale-Domains and Stages (RAS-DS), and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) at baseline and post-intervention. Results: No significant difference was found between MBI group and TAU group regarding sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, studied domains and total scores of studied variables before the intervention. After application of the intervention, there was a significant difference between TAU group and MBI group in domains of positive psychosis symptoms, negative psychosis symptoms general psychopathology, PANSS total score (Z= 2.06, 3.11, 2.16 and 2.46 respectively). Besides, there was a significant difference between TAU group and MBI group regarding RAS-DS total score and FFMQ total score (Z= 4.19 and 4.78 respectively). Conclusion: This study preliminarily recognized prompt and transient benefits of MBI as a third-wave intervention on recent-onset psychosis for patients with schizophrenia. These types of intervention are recommended for nurses as a complementary treatment for positive and negative symptoms and enhancing recovery among schizophrenia patients.

This study aimed to investigate nurses' experience towards caring for children with proven covid-19 infection at pediatric intensive care unit. Subject and Method: Design: A qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was conducted at Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) affiliated to Mansoura University Children's Hospital (MUCH). Subject: It included 14 nurses who were caring for children who had covid-19 infection, either suspected or confirmed. Tools: Semi-structured interviews were conducted using the WhatsApp mobile messaging service to obtain data. The data was analyzed using Colaizzi's approach. Lincoln and Guba's criteria were used to determine the study's rigor. Results: Mental state, emotional state, and caring context were identified as three primary themes and six subthemes. Conclusion: Nurses working at pediatric intensive care unit caring for children with suspected or confirmed covid-19 infection reported a state of mental and emotional anguish, as well as working under insufficient professional circumstances. Recommendation: Increasing hospitals' attention on giving psychological support to nurses and training in coping skills, since COVID-19 outbreak has put enormous strain on hospitals, with frontline nurses being the most severely affected.

The first model: a questionnaire for the mother, the second model: aquestionnaire for the supervisors, the third model: A special questionnaire to develop the skill of the manual study sample in the basics of nutrition and meal planning. The results showed after correcting their answers that the degree ranged between 12 to 21 degree, an average of 17.17±2.28, which means the standard level, was average, which confirmed that more advanced workshops are needed to raise the level of theknowledge. Afterwards applying the workshop scheduled for extension program for the improvement of knowledge in planning meals that were measured through the knowledge test. The test to measure the level of knowledge is evident from these results after correcting their answers and their grades ranged between 13 to 25 degrees, an average of 18.04±3.39 degree, which means, the standard level was average. The study concluded the importance of further education programs and the dissemination of food program at all extension centers in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Aim This study was carried out to determine the frequency of cognitive impairment, no dementia after an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke and to study their evolution toward dementia (transitions in cognitive state) during a 2-year follow-up. Methods Thirty-five patients with first-ever hemorrhagic strokes and in an age-matched and sexmatched comparison group (nonstroke, n = 20) were followed up for 2 years by three serial assessments. Stroke patients at 3, 12, 24 months after discharge were evaluated together with nonstrokes, by an extensive neuropsychological battery and clinical psychiatric interview based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disease, 4th edition TR criteria. Rates of cognitive change were compared using repeated-measures analyses. Factors associated with incident dementia and cognitive impairment, no dementia at 2 years were determined by multinomial logistic regression. Results The majority of patients (71.4%) were cognitively stable. Fewer cases improved (11.5%) and 71.1% of the stroke cases worsened at the end of the 24-month follow-up. There was impaired cognitive function in nearly all cognitive domains of stroke cases compared with nonstroke cases. Overall, stroke cases showed a statistically significant decline in mini-mental state examination (MMSE), spatial ability, and in the executive function domain; however, there was no improvement in attention nonverbal memory domains. Age at stroke onset was independently associated with cognitive impairment at the 2-year follow-up P = 0.03. Conclusion Cognitive evolution 2 years after hemorrhagic stroke is different among patients, but a substantial number of patients remain stable. Additional studies are required to reliably identify individuals at risk for cognitive decline for whom pharmacologic or other therapeutic interventions would be more suitable and who will probably spontaneously improve. Classification of stroke by etiology may be more useful to determine patients at a higher risk of stroke and for its prevention.

Psychopharmaceutical therapy accompanied by psychotherapy and wellness interventions (e.g., nutrition, exercise, counseling) is effective in 80% of diagnosed cases. A lesser known adjunctive therapy is that of cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES). The major hypothesis for the use of CES in depression is that it may reset the brain to pre-stress homeostasis levels. It is conjectured that the pulsed electrical currents emitted by cranial electrical stimulators affect changes in the limbic system, the reticular activating system, and/or the hypothalamus that result in neurotransmitter secretion and downstream hormone production. While evidence is good for applied research, basic research about the mechanisms of action for CES remains in its infancy. There are, however, no North-African studies on this association. Methods: The charts of 1987 patients with mood disorders (mania 1181, depression 806) and 1359 patients with schizophrenia admitted from 2003 to 2007 from an university hospital at Mansoura, Egypt, were reviewed. Seasonality was assessed with Cosinor Analysis. Correlations of the rate of admissions for affective disorders and schizophrenia to climatic variables were performed, including lagged and differenced data. Results: There was a significant seasonal variation in the monthly admission frequencies both for mania (peak in June) and for depression (peak in December) but no significant seasonal variation was found in admissions with diagnosis of schizophrenia. The number of admissions for mania was positively correlated to indicators of temperature and luminosity, but inversely correlated to relative humidity. Quite the opposite, the number of admissions for depression showed a negative correlation to temperature and luminosity, but a positive correlation to relative humidity. 55-57% of the monthly variance of the number of admissions for mood disorders was explained by climatic variables. Conclusions: Seasonality of admissions for mood disorders, but not for schizophrenia, has been demonstrated, in an African Mediterranean region with a fairly constant climate. The association between admission rates and climatic variables found in this study could pave the way for further studies aiming at exploration of the biological mechanism of this association as well as tailoring of treatment interventions on mood disorders.

The aim of this study was to determine whether insight, spirituality and patient beliefs about the necessity and concerns about medication were associated with adherence among those presenting with schizophrenia in an outpatient facility. Methods: At the end of a routine follow up with their psychiatrist, patients completed questionnaires including the Schedule for the Assessment of Insight (SAI- E), Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS), Arabic Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) in addition to demographic and clinical information from patients and their medical files. Results: A convenience sample of 92 patients with schizophrenia was studied .On the basis of the MMAS results, 33 (14.7%) patients were categorized as medication adherent and 59 (49.3%) as medication nonadherent. Regression analysis showed that the BMQ concern subscale and DSES scores were negative predictors of adherence whereas the SAI score was a positive predictor of adherence. The most important predictor of adherence was DSES and SAI, followed by BMQ concern subscale Conclusions: This study extended prior research on the role of insight, spirituality and patient beliefs in medication adherence in a sample of Arab patients with schizophrenia which is consistent with previous research conducted in western cultures.
